Mezhgan Hussainy |
With summer fast approaching, the minds of the style savvy naturally turn to buying that perfect, airy capsule wardrobe; to highlighting lackluster locks with an infusion of sunshine tones; and most importantly, to acquiring that sun-kissed, healthy glow so enviably sported by chic surfer-girl types and the well-heeled of luxury resort cocktail parties. Yet it is one of the great ironies of womankind that rather than wholeheartedly embracing their fresh visage sans maquillage, most ladies slave for hours trying to achieve that “natural” look, a disheartening process, which thanks to overzealous product application, very often results in quite the opposite.
So for anyone who has ever striven for natural perfection, Me by {Me}zhgan, the new, functional line of makeup by Mezhgan Hussainy, makeup artist to the stars, presents itself as the only logical answer. Comprising an indispensable complete collection that features a primer/foundation duo, cream concealer/powder duo, bronzers, eye shadows, eye liners, lip glosses and liners, mascara, multi-color blush and several versatile cosmetic accessories, this unique line offers women the chance to quickly and easily become more polished versions of themselves. |

We know you can’t wait to see the Sex and the City movie this week. But before you go, you and the girls should sip on NUVO Sparkling Cosmos to get you in the mood. NUVO Sparkling Liqueur, the world’s first sparkling liqueur, is made with vodka and delicate French sparkling wine. This twist on the classic Carrie drink will get the gals ready for the premiere. All you need is NUVO, an ounce of Grand Marnier and a splash of lime juice. Stir and serve in a martini glass. Then, get to giggling like the bunch of sexy city ladies you are.
NUVO is available at select liquor stores in NYC or you can order online at www.sparklingnuvo.com. |

Heat. Passion. Love. There are plenty of things associated with the color red. However, a foosball table isn’t necessarily the first one that springs to mind. Nor is a chair shaped like a bottom, or a minimalist, avant-garde lamp. A trip to the Conran Shop to experience the new Rojo exhibit may change your perception, though. Each piece of furniture featured in the show is painted red and showcases emerging Spanish designers. As red is the color of Spain, the palette seems appropriate. |

Remember the days when pregnancy meant a death sentence for your wardrobe and eight months in muu-muus. Those days are long gone as A Pea in a Pod, Mimi Maternity and Motherhood Maternity (all under the umbrella of Mother’s Work, Inc.) show us that fashion transcends a pregnant figure.
Mother’s Work Inc. invited City Pulse for a fall preview of what the lines had to offer and we are pleased to report that fall trends were fully incorporated into their line up. There is a focus on updated ponchos, item jackets and empire waists. For sweaters, an updated poncho achieves the idea of “wrapping yourself in warmth.” It’s a comfortable and convenient alternative to outerwear, but when it is a must, item jackets make a statement without being too fussy. A cropped A-line faux fur trimmed jacket screams fashionista! |

QVC makes doing good feel good. Grab some Mally Beauty All-Natural Lip and Cheek Tint made with the moisturizing shea butter and jojoba, or Dr. Denese Pink Ribbon Advanced Firming Facial Pads, which combine the exclusive Actizone Firming Factor technology with glycolic acid to visibly help firm the skin. Why you ask?
Well, these brands, among many more, are a part of Pink Ribbon Beauty segment on QVC, during which shoppers can choose from a selection of skincare, color cosmetics and hair products, with a portion of the proceeds benefiting the Breast Cancer Research Fund. The two one-hour broadcasts are scheduled to air Tuesday, May 27th at 1 a.m. and 6 p.m. So there ya go. Give back, help those who need it most, and tune into QVC, because you never know what they might have that you need (or really, really want). Products from the Pink Ribbon Beauty broadcast will be available through QVC at 800.345.1515 or at www.QVC.com during the month of May while supplies last. |

BeautyNews paid the Pitch Control showroom a visit for a fall preview and spotted some lines that we had to share. Bellum Classics, Erika Peà±a, Zia Ziprin and Lilly and Jae presents fresh designs in accessories and threads.
Bellum Classics refreshes vintage time pieces. Rolex watches from the 1930s through 1980s are modernized with laser etching to produce one-of-a-kind watches. Also pulling from the past is the Puerto Rico native, Erika Peà±a with her rosary-inspired necklaces, bracelets and earrings. Continuing with the vintage theme is Zia Ziprin. The co-owner of the vintage shoe archival shop, Girls Love Shoes, will be launching her own shoe line this fall. But for now, the store continues to rent and sell shoes from the 1800s to the 1990s for shoots or personal use. |
But you can’t walk around in just jewelry and shoes! Here’s Lilly & Jae to fill the void. The Vancouver-based line will be coming to NYC soon and they will be bringing this season’s florals in deep fall color ways such as navy blues, rich reds and grays. My favorites are the striped bralet-type vests and the hoodie with the floral inside collar.

Let’s face it: Spring cleaning doesn’t just comprise swapping out the clothes in your closet and dousing your apartment in Clorox. Arriving along with that itch to shed the winter “blahs” is a desire to re-decorate your home and start anew. BKLYN DESIGNS kicked off New York Design Week, highlighting the borough’s emerging and established talent with a smattering of furniture-laden showrooms sure to influence the styles of all your space-metamorphosing needs.
The three-day event celebrating art, design and architecture in the heart of DUMBO expanded to four venues this year, and – from May 9 – 11th, included a series of seminars, tours and parties. One of the topics emphasized this year was green living, which included a panel of experts who dispelled some of the myths about going green and offered advice about incorporating sustainability into daily living. |
Greece Moves in on Brooklyn Heights

Korres, my absolute favorite natural beauty line that hails from Greece, has opened their second store in the U.S. Brooklyn’s Montague Street is the lucky piece of land. The Korres creative team worked to reflect the borough’s thriving artistic scene and the busy corner where the store will call home resembles a bazaar with oversized side palette counters, traditional Brooklyn frontage, exposed lighting and Korres’ signature tin. All elements combined make for an artistic, yet soothing atmosphere- exactly what a beauty store in Brooklyn should be. |

New Yorkers love their drink, but by March’s end, even the most social of all butterflies, like myself, can be found holed up in their cocoons. Trekking out for happy hour in New York’s bitter cold at winters end is a feat, but Blue Owl brings me out on even the most blustery evenings.
Now that spring has sprung and tables are slowly spilling out on to the sidewalks, every New Yorker is ready for happy hour and we can once again get back to what we do best. My favorite modern day speakeasy, with the candlelit rooms and amber glow that provided a warm and sexy hideaway in the winter, is also my cool reprieve from the inevitable heat wave come summer. The outdoor space is small and perfect for this time of year. |
