CP Steal: Kerastase Says Goodbye and We Say Hello

By title="Email Ashley Goldsmith" alt="Email Ashley Goldsmith"> Ashley Goldsmith

One of my first memories of Kérastase is from when I was about 12 years old and had my hair cut and colored (oh horrible bonde highlights how I do not miss you!) by my dad’s hairdresser friend. She would take us to her overpriced salon and cut my hair into the most fabulous tween cut and style my hair with products from Kérastase. I would beg my dad to buy the products for me because obviously the final look just couldn’t be achieved without them. So there I was, the only 12 year old I knew with a bathroom full of French haircare products. I finished them up quickly and was forced to move on to some more age appropriate choices.

Last week was the beginning of Canada’s annual Seal Hunt, an event that results in the clubbing of hundreds of thousands of baby seals for the use of their fur. With Russia last week announcing a ban on the hunting of all harp seals less than one year old, all eyes have now turned to Canada. This inhumane act must stop and is now being protested by everyone from people like you and I to entire beauty brands. Take LUSH Cosmetics for example; in an attempt to encourage the government to do the right thing, LUSH has created a new bubble bar in the shape of a baby seal especially for the campaign.

By title="Email Deena Campbell" alt="Email Deena Campbell"> Deena Campbell

At Ted Gibson Salon, the price of a haircut by noted hairstylist Ted Gibson could land you a 32″ flat screen TV, knock off a huge chunk of your rent or give you a round trip plane ticket to Europe. But during these hard times, the Ted Gibson team has smartened up and curbed its prices – at least on Tuesday’s.

Entitled Recessionista Tuesdays’, Ted Gibson salon is offering haircuts and single color processing for $75 and blow-outs for $40 at its Fifth Avenue Salon.

Previously only crafting the manes of A-list celebrities: Angelina Jolie, Gabriella Union, Renee Zellweger, Keira Knightly and Anne Hathaway, Ted is now available for hair cuts, up dos, color processes, extensions, and various color treatments for ‘regular’ people.

Japanese restaurants are quickly becoming as commonplace as New York pizza shops. The one main difference is variety – each Japanese restaurant in the city touts its own unique edge that causes us to crave one over another. It could be a special roll, a great discount, or amazing sake – in the case of Yushi, it’s their sexy sleek conveyor belt!

Yushi Bento Bar’s Midtown location has been a staple lunch spot for a few years. With it’s freshly packaged to-go options, Yushi is the perfect healthy quick-fix for busy Midtown lunchers.

The newly added conveyor belt adds a sit-down feel to the location, coaxing customers to take a break from their busy day to sit, check out, and choose from option after option of cold and hot foods that roll by.

Vote Earth!

Rather than getting into a whole spiel about how important it is to make small changes in your lifestyle to help the environment and how in my opinion, global warming is very much a reality (hello 65 degree January afternoons and snowy April!). I’m going to tell you to just turn off your lights, unplug your toaster, and shut off your idle laptop!

On Saturday March 28th, from 8:30-9:30pm the World Wildlife Fund has created Earth Hour, a global event in which participants turn off their lights for one hour as a vote to take control over the future of our planet. Their goal is for 1 billion people to switch off their lights and to unplug any appliances that are not being used. In the past, the event has saved over 50 tonnes of carbon dioxide worldwide.
