Allow me to present you with a fashion faux pas-itively horrific hypothetical, if you will.
You’re fresh off an evening of debuting a killer new pair of sky-high Louboutins at your Meatpacking District club of choice. As you exit the swanky spot, you strut your way onto the cobblestone streets. Just then – your eye catches a superbly delish man on the opposite corner, who is not-so-inconspicuously checking your glorious gams. You commence strutting…smiling…feeling fine…until your heel catches something, as well: the grout between two stones. And – suddenly – you are falling…screaming…he is cringing…laughing…walking in the opposite direction. |

Any student of fashion knows that photography, just as much as much as design, textiles and print media, is a vital aspect of the industry. This year the International Center for Photography finally gives a nod in the other direction, with an exhibit devoted solely to the contributions that fashion has had on photography, and even art in general over the years.
A number of exhibits will be shown as part of the larger Year of Fashion show, and will cover such vast themes as the history of the genre, the parallels between fashion and other cultural developments, our societal views of women as seen through the lens of fashion, and perhaps most importantly, the intersection of fashion with art across the world. |
CP Style Police: Flaunt Your Assets in the Best Swimsuit for Your Body

The key to finding the bathing suit that’s right for your body type is to play up your assets. Don’t hide that great cleavage or cover a toned derriere. We found some great swimsuit options to flaunt what your mama (or your hardcore workout) gave you. Summer is no time to try and hide your body, be confident and bold with your bathing suit choices. Attitude is everything.
Curve Control – Try Vintage Inspired Swimwear These suits are good for tummy control as well as minimizing large hips and thighs. Be sure that longer cut swimsuits fit properly and do not accentuate large thighs or hips by digging into the flesh. Here is where most women must try on a size bigger than they usually wear in clothes. |

OK, I know it’s Memorial Day weekend, the unofficial start of summer; the forecast promises warm temperatures and beach filled fun. But please, whatever you do…don’t spend hours sunbathing! I know you’ve been warned a million and one times about the effects of prolonged sun exposure and how it will have you looking like Cameron Diaz’s neighbor (Magda?) from There’s Something About Mary, in no time. |

I can’t think of a single beauty conscious friend of mine that doesn’t have at least one Bare Escentuals product making its rounds in their daily beauty routine. For me, I’m completely and utterly obsessed with the Mineral Veil Powder, it’s essential to setting all of the moisturizing and concealing I’ve done. For my acne-prone friend the RareMinerals Blemish Therapy is perfect for simultaneously covering imperfections and working to prevent future breakouts, while my beauty editor friend swears by bareVitamins – Skin Rev-er Upper for creating a perfect canvas for makeup application. |

In today’s image-obsessed, media-centric society, dissatisfaction with one’s body is almost a prerequisite to social acceptance. It is no longer enough to be healthy and feel good. Women the world over are lead to believe that true happiness lies not in having a successful career or a loving family, but in physical perfection: a body that is flawless, underweight, tanned and toned, and a face that is smooth, with high cheekbones, impossibly long eyelashes and full, sensuous lips; it is a Western ideal of perpetual youth and airbrushed beauty which plays upon our insecurities, mocking our natural “imperfections” whilst tantalizingly promising solutions: a nip here, a tuck there, a little augmentation, some strategic liposuction, a touch of Botox, a few weeks of starvation and we will be that much closer to resembling the photograph on the cover of a glossy magazine. Given these standards, it is hardly surprising that cosmetic procedures, eating disorders and self-harm – all methods of exerting temporary control over the post-feminist battlefields of our bodies- are on the rise. |

In recent months, the iPhone has gone from novelty; luxury item to near necessity, so much so that a six-year-old boy I know refers to all cell phones as “iPhone.” The number of applications available grows daily, and many of them are starting to seem ridiculous.
Then, all of the sudden, Epicurious comes along and creates an essential app we just couldn’t live without. The website (along with its partners Gourmet and Bon Appetit) has gained a large following in recent months and it seemed only natural that an application was on its way. |
