OK Smashbox, what have you got? Your bottle tells me you’ll make me smooth and camera ready, but can I trust you? Always a skeptic, I tested the Photo Finish Primer on my hands first. I’m not sure why it is that I do this. Years of makeup testing at the drugstore must have entered my subconscious. Or perhaps my paler-than-pale skin has trained me to be wary of orange undertones.

Here, my fears have proven to be unfounded. The product is colorless and feels powdery to the touch. I actually glanced down at the back of my hand, expecting to find baby powder, but to my surprise it was natural looking and dry. It looks and feels healthy because of its soft, airy texture. Even more impressive, it made my hands look smooth, what a fantastic little trick I found, by accident!

So what does it mean to be a primer and what do we really need it for anyway? The Photo Finish primer can be one of two things: It can be worn under your foundation, as a tool to even out your fine lines and skin tone, and keep your makeup looking fresh well beyond the call of duty, or it can be worn on its own. Yes, it’s like wearing the lightest translucent powder because it takes away shine, yet it doesn’t feel like you’re wearing makeup, making it an excellent option for summer.

This primer can also be a great secret weapon in a pinch. Use the primer over your daily moisturizer to diminish shine and allow your skin to repair itself at the same time. Everything about this product is easy, easy on, easy wear, and easy style, naturally. Bright sun and sandy beaches, you have met your match and I can’t wait to partake in the action.

As for making my makeup last, it has earned my respect, while I’m kept primed and camera ready. Happy posing!
