I was always suspicious of makeup setting sprays and refreshing mists. I previously considered the product to be water being marketed as something more. Then my job as a beauty editor and writer required me to give them a chance and to use them in different ways. From spritzing my face mid-day to see if it gave me a boost or if it made a mess of my expertly applied makeup to spritzing my eyeshadow brushes to see if and how they affected application, I learned to love makeup setting sprays and mists.

They didn’t cause my makeup to melt or migrate and they helped to intensify my eyeshadows when applying them a little moist due to a spritzed brush. My new favorite mist is the Shu Uemura x Super Mario Brothers Yuzu Skin Perfector Makeup Refresher Mist.

The bottle is adorable, featuring the pixelated characters from the popular video game. When I use it, it gives me a little boost. I can’t resist gawking at the pop culture-driven packaging. The product inside wakes my skin up with a little dose of moisture in the middle of the day, because who hasn’t experienced some dryness while dealing with the elements and pressures of the day? I also spritz my shadow brushes and the damp bristles pick up the color and allow it to set better. I have happily incorporated makeup mists into my daily routine. The cool, nostalgic packaging that reminds me of my youth makes it even better.
