A whole new year, a whole new you. Or not. Perhaps a better way to say it would be a more “perfected” you. Perfected in a way that you are comfortable in your skin, so that you know who you are and you know what you like. It doesn’t always have to be about changing; upgrading could be more like it.
Let’s say you are an eyeliner queen and love your gel liners. Take a look at your brush bristles. Do the bristles still have the point or are the hairs dulled out from wear and tear? In the midst of the hustle and bustle of life, it’s easy to forget these little things, but I find it is the little things that make life most enjoyable. If an eyeliner brush is something that you religiously use, why not upgrade to the best? You deserve it. Try Bobbi Brown’s Ultra Fine Eyeliner Brush. I am a huge fan of the length of the handle, and specifically, the shape of the bristles and ease of the brush. It allows for any line thickness I desire.
Lip Balms. Those are very important, and, at times, very underrated. You never can seem to have enough laying around. I personally carry at least five options in my bag. Why not get rid of that old Chapstick or Blistex balm and trade it in for a real treat for your lips. Try Sugar Honey Tinted Lip Treatment (with SPF 15) from Fresh. The buildable coverage allows for the perfect hue of color, while providing SPF as well as essential antioxidants. Sometimes it’s okay to splurge when you use a product this often. Healthy lips are a must, especially during wintertime in New York City.
Do you love a natural eye, and find that you work with the same products constantly? Did your sister pass down your favorite nude shadow, which has made its way around the family? It’s a new year, so why not treat yourself to a brand new natural or dramatic palette for the new year? One of my all time favorite nude shadow palettes has is Dior- Incognito, which contains silky luxurious eye shadows that have a great vibrancy. But it’s not too much. It is not as inexpensive as some other natural palettes, but if it’s something you use daily, why not use the best?
You are starting to get the idea, right? I’d like to stress that you don’t have to spend a lot of money on products to get the best quality, but in the event that you lean toward a certain makeup regimen or look, you might as well have the best tools and products for the job. As you get better at what you do -in this case make application- there comes a time to upgrade because after all, isn’t that what life is all about? Learning, achieving, upgrading, and advancing? Hell yes it is!
Happy 2013 to you all :)
