Color is the perfect season to experiment with (and have fun with) color, and no one knows that better than our celebrity makeup artist and monthly columnist, the LA-based Kerry Malouf. For the Summer Beauty pages of Malibu magazine, Malouf participated in a shoot called “Color to the Wild.” Bright, bold, wild, wonderful color. What could be more delightful on even the doggiest days of summer?
“We wanted to make a statement by having fun with color,” Malouf declared. “Our team consisted of the photographer Livio Mancinelli, hair stylist David Cox and of course, myself doing makeup on model Ali Stella.”
Malouf’s mantra for summer makeup for 2011 is all about color, color, color. Which means it’s also about being fearless. “Summer makeup took a turn this year with bold, electrifying colors that are taking you to the wild side,” she said. “Who doesn’t look good with color? Even if it’s just a splash or a stain of fuchsia or tangerine on their lips or cheeks, it makes you look alive! It’s summertime.”
Brights are indeed everywhere for 2011’s hottest, muggiest months, so Malouf had a blast playing with hue. “I loved using Givenchy’s Summer 2011 Makeup Collection, which is full of color,” the artisan admitted. “The intensity of the 9-color palette, called Le Prismissime, featuring Turquoise Blue, Anise Green, Golden Yellow, Coral Orange, Mauvish Pink, Frappe Coffee, Sparkling White, was perfect for to paint Ali’s face with.”
Givenchy’s Smoothing Gloss Balm is a personal favorite for Malouf, since it offers “a non-sticky texture offers that offers the all-new sensation on the lips: the feel of a balm with a delicate scent of lychee. Amazing!” She continued, “The colors are vibrant: you have the feminine fuchsia of Explosive Raspberry; the magnetic, voluptuous violet of Electric Purple; and tart, luminous Neon Orange.”
But it wasn’t just about bold, bright lips for this shoot. “The orange nail polish was the icing on the cake,” Malouf said.
