Although I endure most of the sweltering summer in New York City, even though I have to make it to Newport, RI for at least a week, I still anxiously await its arrival.
I love all of the seasons really, if only for the sake of diversity and change. I suppose that’s why I’m such a sucker for seasonal beauty releases. We have four very different seasons so you can count on an array of beauty releases to fit every one of them – things like dazzling limited edition products often inspired by the beautiful world around us.
Bright colors in the summer or bold and matte colors for fall – it certainly makes for a fun time to break away from your daily routine to experiment with new and modern selections.
So what should you look for in a summer product? Here are three simple rules: Something with color, something fun, something that can endure the heat. Here are my personal picks for the hottest products this summer.
Laura Mercier Gel Lip Colour: Four gorgeous, limited edition Gel Lip Colours that cushion your lips with a swatch of comforting, sheer color, with a subtle sweet vanilla flavor. I fell in love with the look and finish of this product. Think of a Gel Manicure – you know how it has that gummy look with a subtle shine? Laura brings this ultra luscious texture to your lips that leave them polished, colored, conditioned and hydrated. Just gorgeous!
Nars Baalek Gel Eyeliner: This is one very sexy eyeliner. You can line, highlight, shade and define with modern artistic versatility. This stunning hue –black with flattering gold specs– is perfect year-round because it’s just so pretty. Replace your trusty black or brown eyeliner with this for a warm but bold and sexy statement. Perfect for the summer, because of the 18-hour staying power! It’s easily my new favorite gel eyeliner.
Available at NARS.com.
Shu Uemura Tint in Gelato: Another of my new favorite products! This will certainly find a permanent home in my makeup collection. The divine, mousse-like texture and creamy matte formula is meant for both your lips and your cheeks. Apply in thick or thin layers for easy adjustment and color pay-off — both intense and soft colors are now at your fingertips. This new and very innovative product brings fresh comfort and color to lips and cheeks. I really love the look of it for the lips; it’s unlike anything I’ve ever seen.

Laura Mercier High Coverage Concealer: Maximum coverage is more like it. This amazing and true-to-its-name product, is a 3-in-1 masterpiece that covers, de-puffs and brightens. This is an extremely pigmented product, but you can blend flawlessly. A little goes a long way, so use sparingly. Start from the inner corner under your eye, and blend outward with your ring ringer. There is an impressive array of colors for all skin tones, which is a must. If you are worried about dark circles, this product is for you. I recommend to all clients with that concern.
LORAC Alter Ego Lipstick: LORAC offers some really fantastic colors here. Instantly transform your look with 20 sexy, playful and highly-pigmented cream lipsticks that coat your lips in luscious color with a satin finish that really lasts. The formula is loaded with anti-aging antioxidants such as Acai Berry, Pomegranate, Grape Seed Extract, and Vitamins C and E to help hydrate, nourish and condition your lips. You are encouraged to experiment! What is your Alter Ego this Summer?
NARS 413 Bleeker Multi-Purpose Illuminator: Nars triumphs again, this time with a brand new lightweight liquid illuminator. Light your skin from within with this dreamy product of light-reflecting liquids that glide on to your skin to refresh and enhance the complexion with a shimmering glow. Deceptively sheer and decidedly luminous, it can be applied all over the face or used as a highlighter. It can also be worn under, over or mixed with foundation. I might be so bold as to say mix a little with your sunscreen on the beach! You don’t’ have to worry about any sparkling glitter here. Just sheer glowing beauty.
Available at and NARS Cosmetics.
