Youngblood’s Mighty Shiny Lip Gel offers the trifecta of elements I desire in a lip gloss: sexy, melted plastic-like shine, sheer color and a vanilla scent. I’ve been lacquering up with these long, elegant squeeze tubes, applying Stripped (clear with a hint of iridescent shimmer) and Revealed (a naked, baby pink) before and after every meal.
I’ve been pairing the Lip Gels with the also newly launching Luminous Crème Blush in Plum Satin for a wash of angelic, youthful color. It’s like my inner glow became, well, outer! Two blended dabs on the apples of my cheeks instantly brightened my fair skin. The formula is ultra luxe, too! All Youngblood products are available here.
The mercury is quickly rising and with it, the desire to streamline your daily makeup routine and run of products. If there are two lip-cheek combos we recommend besides the above referenced Youngblood items… it’s these items from KORRES. You can sacrifice quantity while maintaining quality and a wash of color with the Lip Butter Glaze in Pomegranate. It’s juicy, fresh and bright, and as buttery and as shiny as its name suggests. An added benefit? It conditions, thanks to sugar cane extract and potassium. Be sure to quell the desire to lick your lips.
The Cheek Butters are a recent addition to the KORRES Butters family and while most of try to avoid butter in our diets, these are Butters you will desire more of, as they offer a radiant and hydrating pinch of color. That, combined with the adorable vintage tin packaging, make us want to leave these on the vanity to admire. Swipe the soft tints onto your cheeks with your fingers and blend upwards towards temples for a dewy, “I just exchanged longing looks with my crush” look. Tuck Philia Rose (a dusty pink) or Chara Crimson (apple red) in all your summer totes. These hues look especially gorgeous on fair-skinned beauties of the Snow White sort. Want a Beauty News tip? Blend these two shades for a custom color. Nab both the Lip Butter Glazes and Cheek Butters at Sephora.
Also in keeping with the season’s less-is-more philosophy is Make Up For Ever’s Aqua Shadow crayon in 20 E, a shimmery bronze in a gloriously creamy, pearlized formula that can be manipulated in many ways. Line your top lid and smudge with your finger for a light glow or line your bottom lid in both black kohl and this and smudge for a gilded, smoked and fashion-forward pop. The chubby sticks are serious intensifiers.
MAC gets nautical with its charming Hey, Sailor collection, which operates on the bronze-and-color principle. With striped, sailor-style packaging, there’s plenty of hues and accessories to choose from. There’s a pinup girl energy to this collection, so there’s lots of sumptuous ruby red lips and sun-kissed, golden skin. You can look like you are spending weekends on a yacht without ever stepping into the sun. Your skin will thank you later. The line is available through July 5.
ELLE has launched its full line of cosmetics and brushes at Kohl’s. My absolute favorite items in the set? The thick, fluffy, utterly decadent powder brush. I used it to apply my MAC Studio Fix powder and was absolutely astounded by the quality of the bristles. The smudger shadow brush also helped me buff my signature smoky eyes. The mint green nail polish and terra cotta bronzer were also supreme. I was brightly pedi’ed and sun-smooched with a shimmery, low maintenance glow.
Oh, and speaking of smoky eyes, Three Custom Color Specialists latest shadow, Seine-Sational, is a grey-green shimmer that was inspired by the reflection of the Eiffel Tower on the Seine River at night. It doesn’t get much more chic than that.
We’re in Full Bloom with Too Faced’s Ultra Flush Blush. It’s a powder and Sweet Pink brightens my day and my visage. The vintage black disc package is also aces. The Cheek and Lip Crème Color in Tea Rose requires little more than deftness with fingertips to achieve an enviable, post-orgasmic glow. Available at Sephora, Ulta or TooFaced.com.
Smashbox Summer 2012 Shades of Fame Collection is “must own,” thanks to the endless color combos it offers. The Eye Palette is not for those who fear color. The shimmery coral of Sherbet and the oceany blue of Pacific, when applied with a light touch, looked bold and beautiful. Someone call Brooke Logan and Ridge Forrester. (A lil’ soap opera humor there!) The kit comes with a trial-sized vial of the now-cult Photo Finish Lid Primer, which is right up there with Urban Decay’s Primer Potion. Sunset smoky eyes are still raging, and you can create the look with Sherbet, Nude, Honey and Sandstone.
Reflection High Gloss Lip Gloss Set boasts five travel-sized glosses to complete your look. Pair with the eye palette or alone to shimmer and shine.
Clinique has expanded the color range of its Chubby Sticks. Eight new balms have been added, with Heaping Hazelnut, Mighty Mimosa and Two Ton Tomato suitable to paint your pout with moisture and matte color. The color look like their names. Easy ’nuff. Another win for this classic co!
