I don’t care if you are a cat or a dog person. You will totally coo and lose your you-know-what over the Shupette range for shu uemura. Karl Lagerfeld’s cat Choupette is both the inspiration for and the face of this limited edition, feline and femme range. I can’t stop dipping my finger into the Rouge Bourbon Fantasy Trio for lips, with its candy-coated, hot pink, berry and rose shades. I dip and then dab right on the center of my lips for a flushed, stained look!

Then there is the Silk Cushion Cheek Blush in Pink is a spongy and bouncy cream blush that pretty much politely asks to be popped on the apples for a “I was just running errands in the chilly air and even stopped to pick up cat food” natural flush. I love what’s inside the cases, but Choupette, perched so politely on the packaging, reels me in every time. Shu + Choupette = Shupette. Adorbs, really.

I’ve only recently started using eyebrow pencils to fill in the sparse, disagreeable and hard to tame inner corners of my brows, so when Chella’s Dazzling Dark Brown kit landed on my desk, I tore the box open and proceeded to play with what was inside. It is designed for dark brunettes such as myself, but there are other colors for other hair hues. It lets me fill, groom, highlight and tame at will. It comes with a filler brow pencil, a highlighter pencil that brightens whatever region in your eye area that you want and a brow gel so your handiwork stays put. A friend who sees me weekly asked me what I did differently when using this, so it’s noticeable, but in the right way.

Here’s a reason to hightail it to the Elizabeth Arden counter. Shoshanna Gruss, the brand’s style director and the fashion designer who launched her eponymous line with the goal of creating clothing for different (read: REAL!) body types, has created a fun and functional limited edition cosmetic bag that’s free with a purchase. The Shoshanna for Elizabeth Arden Gift with Purchase Cosmetic Bag is adorbs, featuring her signature, bright, bold print, and it is available now at Lord and Taylor, but act fast, because they are certainly not going to last! With a $32.50 purchase, you can choose between a PREVAGE or Ceramide version of samples. It’s versatile, offering two use options: It’s a cute, fold-over clutch for toting essentials or it can be expanded with its second zip storage compartment to hold a full kit. Love, love and love.

Uni K Wax Center’s High Precision Tweezers are a fab tool designed to nab even the tiniest, most resistant-to-plucking hairs. I use them trim only annoying or errant hairs. Whatev the case, these babies are designed with a thinner bottom for an ergonomic hold, while the tip is thicker for proper hair yanking. I removed the tiniest but most annoying chin hair while editing this post!

I am mad about matte this fall, when it comes to lipstick and nail polish. I prefer lip gloss to lipstick without fail, but I’ve decided to push my limits and boundaries by playing with the rich, velvet and matte lipstick textures this fall, like Tom Ford’s Lip Color Matte in Ruby Rush that looks like it was created with one of our publishers, Candice Sabatini, in mind. I don’t usually wear reds and I struggle with the shade, but this goes on like a stain, doesn’t dry lips and fades down like a berry-esque stain, which I can totally rock.

But I am way, way, waaay more comfortable with matte and dark shades when it come to my pedi, even during cold, toe-covered weather! Zoya’s Matte Velvet Collection features shades that are rich, dark and opaque, which makes them ripe for this season. It’s all color but no shine. You know you wear flip flops around the house on cold days! Who doesn’t? You can’t snooze on a cold weather pedi! My crushes are Harlow, a hot purple, and Loredana, a cozy, warm, fuzzy sweater grey. I have been bringing my polishes to my biweekly pedis for the past year and that trend with continue with these lovelies.

If you aren’t feeling matte, especially for your lips, since the texture and formula can be unflattering, drying or show aging but want a different or unique texture, well, you gotta go with Vincent Longo’s Metagloss. Rialto is a reflective, sparkling copper shade that gives new meaning to the idea of heavy metal. If you want to create look-at-me-lips, this is the stuff. The color is beyond intense, so go light on your eye makeup and let your metallic lips be the focus.

Oh, and if you love to support up and coming bands and the indies, as opposed to easy-to-find, on-all-department counter products, and be the first of your stylish friends to try new things, then check out Supercute, a new lip gloss range that doesn’t scrimp on shine but totally skips the stickiness. My fave was Love, a sheer lavender-y pink, but there’s also turnt up, brighter shades like the coral-like Peace, which is mega bright in the tube but softer and less intense when applied.
