If you can splurge on ONE, and I do mean just one, lipstick this fall, it’s by Tom Ford. You by all means should shell out $50 for one of the designer’s cushiony ‘sticks and keep the tube tucked in a safe compartment in your purse. Guard. It. With. Your. Life. It’s so smooth and buttery soft with colors that look good on all tones of skin. I almost don’t want to use it, since the initials of the distinguished designer (and filmmaker, of course) are stamped on the tip of the bullet. But with a $50 price tag, it can’t sit unused and untouched on in your Saint Laurent clutch, now can it? What would be the point? Two uni shades of flawlessness? Negliee, a perfect-for-September nude, and Spanish Pink, a just-pink-enough, rosy shade. Mwah, mwah, mwah! Apply and proceed to blow air kisses until your lips ache.
Have you moved on from BB Cream to CC Cream yet? I have, thanks to Boots No. 7’s CC Cream With Sunscreen —SPF 20, y’all! It color corrects and when I woke up one late August morning with some heinous dark circles from late nights and lack of sleep, I was not a happy camper. To fix that problem when it happens, I tap the CC cream on to my face lightly, with three dots, maximum, and blend. It evens my skin tone and sometimes even replaces concealer for me.
LORAC’s new home is at Kohl’s revamped beauty department and I’m loving the Elegant Orchid set, which is available this month and includes the amazing Chrome shadow, which is a pinkish shade that highlights and provides a chic wash of color, and the OMFG Cobra Mascara, the wand of which is shaped like a cobra’s head. No, I am not kidding. I adore this wand because it’s so thoroughly badass. I am all about packaging and technology, and this tool has stolen my heart. Normally, you steer clear of such a serpent but when it’s doused in LORAC’s lengthening, blackening and volumizing mascara, well, sign me up. #Crushin’ #CobraCommander #LORACLOVE.
I don’t usually shop at Walmart because I prefer Target for my discount wares, but when I have to run in for something quick, I always find myself wandering into the makeup section to peruse the offerings of Drew Barrymore’s FLOWER BEAUTY. I am now officially in love with the Lip Suede Velvet Lip Chubby in Life’s a Peach. It’s a soft, peachy pink with a matte texture that looks lovely when paired with winged liner, Chung-style. As in Alexa.
I have also been playing with the brand’s Eye Marker + Creme Eye Shadow. It’s a dual-ended pen with a thick marker tip for lining upper lashes and a supremely soft and crease-free cream shadow on the other end. Although these are designed to be used in tandem, I don’t take that approach. I notice that the cream formula shadows often cause the markers to fade, so here’s what I do. I use a quick drying, colorless primer and then draw the line, hugging lash. Then I use the cream shadow under lower lashes and in the inner corner for a pop of color and shimmer. Yes! FLOWER’s Lovely Lilac is a great shade for fall.
And you thought that Clinique’s Chubby Sticks for lips were round and rad! The mega rotund Cheek Colour Balm is a fatty but it allows for controlled application, thanks to the twist up barrel technology. I dab a few dots of Amp’d Up Apple (a nude pink, not red, despite its name!) or Roly Poly Rosy, a bright yet sheer pink, on my cheek apples and blend out and up. The shades are universally flattering; I just choose my hue and intensity based on the rest of my look for the day. It looks like a light flush most of the time, and that is definitely my preference.
Urban Decay can do no wrong in my eyes (or when on my eyes) and their Perversion Mascara is the blackest of the black. I can never get enough blackness on my already-dark lashes. But this mascara is about as midnight as it gets. The thick, bushy bristle brush is amazeballs, too. It doesn’t budge, either.
Makeup artist Stephen Keyes, who has worked with the likes of Liv Tyler, among others, has cultivated his own line, aimed at the luxe market. He has the “keyes to beauty.” Get it?! I particularly LOVED his Octoberfest Eye Shadow Trio, which boasts three pans of warm, autumnal colors for a sunset eye look. Why not browse those Saturday afternoon harvest festivals with this on your lids?! There’s a matte brown, a shimmery brown and a shimmery orange gold. Looking for a new nude lipstick? Then check his Luxury Matte Lipstick in Hollywood, you superstar! The Liquid Luster Lip Gloss in Seduction was another fave, thanks to the golden pink hue and butter softness. It’s more a liquid lipstick than a gloss, F to the Y to the I.
