Beauty

Makeup artist Todd Delano has a cool job, inherently. But he works with Katy Perry, one of the newest COVERGIRLs on the block, who also happens to be preternaturally gorgeous, so of course we had to invite him to sit In the Hot Seat with Beauty News this month. He shared some of his favorite products and tips, which he also uses on his famous client!

So settle in and get to know Todd Delano! Stick around to the very end, too, since he shares a golden rule that ALL women should follow when it comes to products!

BN: Okay, we HAVE to ask – what’s it like working with Katy? Is she super hands on and specific with the looks you create? Does she ever just say, ‘Todd, go ahead. Do whatever you want.’ Give us a picture of what it’s like to work with someone who is so freakin’ gorgeous!
TD: She is a blast to work with! Katy is an outgoing, vocal person that is full of surprises. She likes to have fun with her makeup and she is always willing to experiment with new looks.

BN: Favorite COVERGIRL product ever?
TD: I’ve always loved COVERGIRL’s LashBlast Volume Mascara for thick lashes. It adds volume without clumping or smudging.

BN: Favorite current COVERGIRL product?
TD: I’ve been leaning towards the COVERGIRL Ready, Set, Gorgeous Collection for a fresh, natural look. It includes a foundation, concealer and powder that are oil-free and all of them control shine throughout the day.

BN: Favorite luxe product?
TD: I love to indulge in La Mer skincare.

BN: What is one product ALL women need in their bags and why?
TD: Every woman should have COVERGIRL Colorlicious Lip Glosses in their bag to make sure they can get picture-perfect in an instant. It’s moisturizing and the color payoff adds fun and glamour to any look.

BN: Can you share a universal makeup tip that all women can use, pretty please?
TD: Always hydrate your skin and make sure to find the perfect match for foundation so it blends seamlessly. Apply a couple shades on jawline and to the neck, and pick which one disappears into your skin.

BN: What trends are you seeing for Fall 2014? It’s only early summer, but still… we like to plan ahead.
TD: Metallic eyes in bronze, copper, gold, silver. Add just a touch, or go bold and do a smoky eye in metallic. Bold liners are big, either in classic black or experiment with color like a strong cobalt. You can do a classic winged liner or rim the eyes. Trend or not, I love a bold lip in deep burgundies, like COVERGIRL Queen Collection Lip Color in Burgendelicious, especially when paired with a metallic eye or a nude eye; it’s a statement worth making.

BN: Your personal makeup philosophy is…
TD: You should have fun with makeup. It’s just makeup and you should never be scared to try anything because if it doesn’t work, you can just wipe it off. It’s not permanent. Go ahead…try that color you think you would never wear!
