Sonia Kashuk returns to the In the Hot Seat column this month, offering up Valentine’s Day tips and techniques! We’ve had her as our guest several times before and because she is a favorite who offers easy-to-follow, accessible tips, we’ve once again extended the invite and asked for her suggestions on how to put together a flawless date night look or what to opt for if you’re planning an evening out with fellow single ladies.
BN: Valentine’s Day is here – what’s your suggestion for the most romantic makeup or tips/techniques for looking and smelling good on date night?
SK: Every date night look should begin with a comprehensive body regime. Start in the shower with my Spa Body Brush for some exfoliating and rejuvenating dry brushing.
Next, lather up with my Shower Gel or Crème Body Wash and follow with my Body Lotion or Body Butter for touchable, soft skin. Use corresponding scents, like my Red Promisia the perfect sexy smell of vanilla and sandalwood, for a full-bodied fragrance that will last all night. You can even add on the matching Eau De Toilette to ensure you will smell fabulous all night long.
Next comes the makeup. For the perfect Valentine’s Day date look, keep it fresh, simple and soft. Most men prefer natural makeup so keep the statement colors to a minimum. Instead go for luminous skin, rosy cheeks, soft smoky eyes and a nude lip. And remember, smoky doesn’t have to mean black; opt for natural tones like browns and taupes for a more romantic look.
If you really want to “wow,” go for the drama in the lashes by applying falsies. Just be sure to keep the style natural, like my Full Volume Lashes, so it doesn’t take your look over the top.
BN: What about for the single ladies, going out with girlfriends?
For the singles ladies, this is your time to shine, so go for that all-out glam of a statement lip. Red is always a favorite for this time of year but feel free to experiment with vivid pinks, rich bordeauxs, and deep plums. Just be sure to keep the rest of the face simple; there is nothing more classic and chic that the focus of a bold lip; it’s all about the power of one!
We see a lot of items about perfect lips on Valentine’s Day, but the lipstick or gloss will likely be kissed off — literally. Can you offer some alternate products and tips?
Matte formulas have longer staying power so try something like my Velvety Matte Lip Crayon to ensure staying power. Creating a matte base with a lip pencil before applying lipstick is another great way to extend wear. And if you insist on a shine finish, choose neutral nudes that won’t show up on your significant other and avoid tacky textures — nothing is less sexy than a sticky kiss.
BN: Are lip crayons going to remain a “big thing” in 2014? They were everywhere in 2013 and BTW, we love yours for your Target line!
SK: Yes, lip crayons are amazing — super easy to apply, portable, and they are now available in so many different colors and textures. We were one of the first to bring this product to Target and make it an affordable option for lip color. I definitely see this trend continuing into this year.
BN: Any tips for the upcoming spring season – new launches or suggestions?
SK: We actually have three new shades of our Velvety Matte Lip Crayon coming out for Spring. A bright pink, vivid coral, and bold red orange; the perfect wearable shades to make a statement this season!
