Gucci Westman needs no introduction. The Global Artistic Director for Revlon and legendary makeup artist, who also worked for Lancome during her career, is a “big get” for this month’s In the Hot Seat. She graciously shared some of her time and tipped us to her favorite Revlon products and the ones she wants you to try just once since she knows you will fall in love with them!
She also revealed her favorite high-end splurges and gave us a preview of what’s going to be hot this fall, especially her Shanghail Collection which hits retail in October.
Westman also explained how she approaches makeup for real woman that aren’t walking runways and considers herself a Revlon woman!
BN: What are your favorite Revlon products and why?
GW: Right now, I’m super excited about my new collection for Revlon, The Shanghai Collection by Gucci Westman for Revlon, Fall 2012 that launches this October. Other great staples are Illuminance Crème Shadow in Not Just Nudes; ColorBurst Lip Butter in Sugar Frosting; Age Defying with DNA Advantage Cream Makeup in Early Tan and Grow Luscious Mascara.
BN: What are some Revlon products ALL women should try at least once because they will love them?
GW: There are so many good ones. For lips, I love the ColorBurst Lip Butters and Just Bitten Kissable Balm Stains. For your face, the PhotoReady Bronzer in Bronzed & Chic from my summer Escapism collection and PhotoReady Eye Primer and Brightener, and any of the Revlon mascaras! Oh and my Spring/Summer Collection – the Colorburst lip glosses and fun nail enamels are summer must-haves!
BN: Favorite luxury/high end department store product you can’t live without?
GW: I have a couple: La Mer The SPF Fluid and By Terry rose lip balm come to mind right away.
BN: You are pretty much a legend in the beauty industry — what is your philosophy on beauty at this stage of your career? How has it changed?
GW: Subtle. I like makeup to enhance my look and not define it. I like a little mascara, bronzer and a little blush on cheeks, but nothing too overdone. While I love to experiment with makeup on other people, I’ve always been someone who likes a clean and understated look.
BN: What are your tips for F/W 2012-2013 beauty trends? Can you share your tips or suggestions?
GW: Fashion Week has become all about trendsetting and the makeup has even become somewhat of a fashion statement of its own. Starting with appliqués on the nails and moving up onto the face and body in recent years, makeup has become a lot more relevant in the overall looks shown. With the social media craze like Instagram, Twitter and Pinterest, there is always a moment to be photographed so you have to be ready!
BN: What is the one guiding principle (or more) that you go by when creating looks and products for real women with Revlon products?
GW: I consider myself to be a Revlon woman and I try to create products that women will want to use and it’s important for me to make something for everyone. I also tend to think what makeup I like to wear myself, when I do wear makeup!
BN: Any exciting new Revlon launches you’d like to share?
GW: My Shanghai collection that launches in October. It’s inspired by my travels to China and incorporates some really vibrant and elegant colors.
BN: Favorite celeb to work with and why?
GW: There are too many to mention, but of the top of my head? Cameron Diaz, she is one of my oldest and dearest friends; Jennifer Aniston, love her. She’s such a gorgeous fun girl, you fall in love. And I love all the Revlon Brand Ambassadors. Emma Stone is so great, I love her wit and her chameleon-like beauty; she’s incredibly inspiring for young girls.
BN: Is there a universal tip or technique that works for all women?
GW: If you are pairing a lip with a bold eye make sure you leave your skin fresh and glowing – not done up – it enhances the overall look.
BN: Favorite lipstick?
GW: Revlon Super Lustrous in Cherry Blossom – from my new collection for Fall 2012. It’s such a flattering shade.
BN: Favorite mascara?
GW: Revlon Grow Luscious Mascara in one of my favorites!
