Halloween is an awesome holiday. There’s free candy, parties galore, and best of all, it’s the one time of year you can dress completely outlandish without consequence. The only problem is makeup. I personally don’t like the standard Halloween makeups that are sold in novelty stores. You know, the kind that sit on your face like a brick and require gallons of face wash for removal. But let’s face it, having the right make-up will either make or break your costume. Here are some cosmetics that will bring together your spooky vision. We recommend products for all ranges of costumes.

Kat Von D Foiled Love Lipstick
These lipsticks are simply superb. They’re moisturizing and contain anti-aging elements to keep your lips feeling luscious. They’re also incredibly long lasting. I wore the Adora shade out one night, came home, accidentally fell asleep with it on, and in the morning it was perfectly intact and left no stains on my pillows – true story! Additionally, they’re made with 3D metallic foil finishes so they really make your mouth pop with color. And with six seductive shades ranging from deep red to peach, these would go great with any apparel. Kat Von D not only knows her tattoos, she also knows her cosmetics. Available at

Would compliment Vampires, Police Officers, and Biker Babes.

LORAC Oh La Lace Eye Shadow Palette
Sultry, sexy, stunning. No, I’m not talking about myself (wink); I’m talking about this eye shadow palette. It has all the right colors to create the perfect smoky eye and can be used wet or dry. The lace covering of the palette also makes it a perfect accessory on its own. Available at

Would compliment French Maids, Undead Brides, and Cats.

LORAC Close Up Face Tutorial
For those of you who want everything in one neat little package, here you go – blush, mascara, eye shadow trio, liquid eyeliner, and lip shine. And for those of you that are a little shaky on applying your own makeup, there’s a tutorial included on how to use everything. What’s especially wonderful about this package is how versatile it is. You can produce radiant day or evening looks in just a couple of minutes. This set is golden! Available at

Would compliment Vintage Actresses, Cleopatras, and Greek Goddesses.

There’s a lot that can be said about these lashes. I mean, just look at them! Not only is the concept of making lashes out of paper unique but the styles to choose from are as well. These intricately beautiful lashes come in a variety of styles including peacock feathers and peonies. Additionally, some Halloween specific looks will be hitting stores soon so be sure to keep your eyes peeled for those. But most importantly, the texture of the lashes is sturdy yet soft. So you won’t have to worry about ripping a lash or cutting your eyelids. And though paper cut eyelids might be an interesting Halloween look, any other day? Not so much. Available at

Would compliment Angels, Mermaids, and Geisha Girls.

JESSICA Trick O’ Treat Nail Polish Collection
The first thing that struck me about these polishes is that they come in jack-o-lantern bottles (so cute!) Then it also occurred to me that these would be wicked as Halloween party favors. Think about it, would you rather receive bat shaped erasers, or a Jessica nail polish in Witches Brew? Yes, we know, the latter! It’s a no-calorie party favor, to boot! Available at

Would compliment Apparitions, Pirates, and Cheerleaders.

nails inc. Special Effects 3-D Glitter and Crackle Nail Polishes
Wow, just wow. These polishes are great on so many levels! First off they don’t chip easily. You may think, “Um, its cracked polish…” but, trust me, there’s a big (noticeable) difference between polish that’s purposely cracked and polish that’s chipping. Second: the wear time is amazing. The 3-D glitter polish (in Fitzroy Square) I wore for about two weeks before the luster started to go. Finally, have you seen the colors? Available at

Would compliment Fairies, Witches, and Cyborgs.

And since Halloween isn’t the only season upon us, it wouldn’t hurt to carry some Bath and Body Works pocket bacs and hand lotions with you. Whether you’re handing out candy or taking your little ones out for a sweets search, these tiny hand sanitizers and lotions will keep your hands germ-free and refreshed – not to mention the Halloween inspired scents are to die for! We are crazy about Spiced Cider and Sinful Vanilla. Mmmm. Inhale! Available at
