Earth Day is April 22, so mark your calendars and do your part for the environment, even it’s something as small as not printing emails for a day to save paper or by powering down your computer to save electricity – we at BN decided to do our part by debunking the myth that “green” makeup lines and Earth-friendly cosmetics aren’t as glamorous or luxurious. Eco-conscious lines by Josie Maran Cosmetics, 100% Pure, Cargo and Larenim prove that green is the new glam.

Stunning former model Josie Maran launched her eponymous line last year and she’s been racking up accolades and awards left and right. Her mascara in Black is one of the plushest we’ve encountered in eons. Maran ardently adheres to the philosophy that luxury can have a conscience. In celebration of Earth Day, she’s designed Josie Maran Earth Day Kit, replete with biodegradable packaging. The collection includes the aforementioned mascara, a black eyeliner, Plumping Lip Gloss in Daring, Cream Blush and Sunrise and a deluxe sample of Argan Oil, to boot. You can be gorgeous and Earth-friendly with this kit.

Available at Sephora locations or http://www.sephora.com.

100% Pure takes things a step further and is the line that is pushing the makeup industry forward with its green-friendly stance. The company holds international patents pending for the use of fruit, vegetable seeds and flower pigments in cosmetics. Indeed, 100% Pure mines the earth for ingredients, instead of employing those that may harm it or end up in a landfill. The company’s Fruit Pigmented Lip Glosses are natural and vegetarian, and they include Vitamin E. The array of shades is both nude and berry toned. The Fruit Pigmented Lip and Cheek Tints are also comprised of fruit pigments and mixed with softening shea and cocoa butter. Essentially, you are applying the nutrients and antioxidants that are naturally present in the fruits to your face with each of these products, since they are made up entirely of fruit! There’s even a fruit pigmented mascara and a warm bronzer made up of cocoa, coffee, tomato and berries! These two products are available exclusively through QVC. 100% Pure’s commitment to using natural fruit pigments is unparalleled. The rest of 100% Pure products are available at ULTA and Bath and Body Works locations or http://www.100percentpure.com.

Cargo’s Plant Love line is aptly named. The earth-aware line’s Natural Origin Baked Illuminator in Earth not only makes your skin gorgeously, naturally bronzed, but the compact is made of corn and is therefore biodegradable. Now that’s truly thoughtful beauty. Available at http://www.sephora.com.

Earth-friendly lines can also appeal to a variety of age groups. Larenim Mineral Makeup is a relatively new company launched by Kirsten Corcoran, that provides a healthy, all-natural and vegan alternative to major, department store brands without sacrificing an iota of style or elegance. Corcoran has owned and worked in health food stores for years and believes in environmental consciousness. With a range of products that can be used wet or dry, Larenim eschews use of skin toxic products like talcs and dyes. Their loose eye shadows are similar to MAC Pigments and come in an array of colors, like the electric blue Jinx, the dazzling Bewitched Beige and the fiery Fantasia. These deep shades are good for you and the earth! Store locator at http://www.larenim.com.
