From fierce looking eyes and uber soft lips, to foundation that goes on just the way you like it, these new makeup must haves are what your beauty routine is calling out for now.
BEST LIP BALM:
Cold, dry winter air is murder on your mouth. To keep your pout moist, healthy, protected, and hydrated, you need to get your hands on Nuxe’s Reve De Miel lip balm. It’s the richest formula, and my lips have never been softer. I slather it on my lips and let it penetrate and absorb overnight. It comes in a pot, so for hygiene reasons, I keep it out of my pockets so it doesn’t pick up lint. It lives on my nightstand and my lips are better for it. A little goes a long way. Two swipes and your saturated lips will be supple and sexy the next day.
BEST USE OF COCONUT OIL:
I am a Kopari Beauty obsessive due to its coconut oil products, especially the cleansing oil, which doesn’t irritate my eyes yet removes all of my waterproof, longwearing black liner and mascara. But I am super obsessed with the brand’s Coconut Oil Lip Love. It’s a clear gloss that is majorly hydrating and soothed my swollen, battered lips during a recent cold in which all the sneezing and use of tissues caused me deal with a dry, chapped, and raw pucker. It also added ’00s-era shine, which I’ve never given up on.
BEST SECOND SKIN FOUNDATION:
Giorgio Armani Power Fabric Foundation is my new favorite liquid makeup because you can use a little or a lot. You can build coverage all over the face or just use a drop here and there to spot check or deal with any breakouts, blemishes, or discoloration. It doesn’t look like you are wearing a mask, since it mimics and melds with skin, blending like a dream. I apply it with a slightly damp beauty blender.
BEST METALLIC LIPPIE:
Milk Makeup is one of my fave new brands for its minimalist, fashion girl offerings. Since I love Milk and I love heavy metal I’m also a hard rock publicist), of course I gravitated towards the Lip Metal click pens. If you like a precise lip, but are sorta over the velvet matte trend, then run to Sephora and scoop up Buffy or Slayer.
BEST SHADOW QUAD:
Milk Makeup’s Night Goals Shadow Quad is also my new go-to. It’s four pans of cream shadow that you dab onto lids with fingers and blend, and it dries down to a powdery finish. I love smudgy, sooty, smoky, rock ‘n’ roll eyes and this baby gets me there. I love the primal-ness of applying shadow with my digits. It’s like eating without utensils. There’s something freeing and fun about doing both with your
BEST INDIE EYELINER:
“I have too many black eyeliners,” said no one ever, especially this beauty editor. I will try any formula, including and especially a newly discovered indie brand. Velvet by Miggi Cosmetics liquid liners have a velvet-like application, which is key because it doesn’t tug or pull at sensitive eyelid skin or skip or drag. You hear that? It’s eyeliner that’s good for you. Now you know!
Target’s Pixi By Petra line launched the Pixi Pretties range, which is collabs with online beauty and style influencers. Of the collection, I can’t live without the Pixi + Aspyn Ovard Eye Accents set. It’s a clear brow gel aka “Brow Tamer” and Lower Lash Mascara. Those are two features that when properly cared for or accented can make all the difference with those windows to your soul. A little mascara on the bottom lashes is an ace finishing touch.
