Red is the color of love, passion and Valentine’s Day. Blah blah blah blahzity blah. We’re all about pink lips, which are more inviting than scarlet lady looks, especially when someone’s coming in for the kill via a kiss on the big day. Do dudes really want a big smear or smudge of red on their cheeks or their own lips? No way.
But more than that — pink lips are accessible. They are a 24/7/365 look. So don’t just celebrate Valentine’s Day on February 14. Do it every day. And wear a pinked out lip as often as you can.
We’ve rounded up some of the best crayons, sticks and gloss in all shades of pink. This is for the 20 to the 13. Enjoy. Pink up.
Topshop Powder Room: A mod pink, it can look chalky, so build coverage and intensity of hue based on your skin tone. Peaches and creamers, like myself, should tread lightly. Just two swipes on each lip was good enough. Golden, bronzy or dark-skinned beauties can up the ante and go with thicker, fuller coverage.
Sonia Kashuk Velvety Matte Lip Crayon in Blossomy Nude: We stumbled upon – actually, no, we didn’t. We can’t take credit for discovering these on our own. Sonia Kashuk herself actually suggested we try her Velvety Matte Lip Crayons in her November 2011 In the Hot Seat feature. If you like red, but want to tone down to a muted pink without sacrificing any of the sexiness, Blossomy Nude is a quality choice. It’s hydrating and looks like a swath of velvet on your smacker. It’s a rosy pink that’s not too red nor is it too pink.
Clinique Chubby Stick Intense in Plushest Punch: This is a power pink best suited for darker skin tones. But I tried it and liked it more after I blotted it. These chubsters are a new cult fave on the Clinique counter, and they are the most moisturizing of all the lip crayons I’ve tried.
Topshop Lip Crayon in Clueless: Hot pink lips are hawt!, as your teenager might say. But you can pull off bright and bold pink lips at any age with this creamy crayon. It intimidating in stick form, since it’s concentrated, but once you swipe, purse, press and blot your lips, color disperses beautifully.
Stick It to ‘Em:
Sonia Kashuk Satin Luxe Lip Color: Stick it to ’em in three very different shades. Pink Punch is just that, as it’s a hot pink that can be turned up or down depending on how much you swipe on your pucker. Nude Pink is just nude enough and just pink enough, and offers the shine of a gloss with the coverage of a stick. Blushing is rosy and dusty and my new BFF. These do indeed shine like a gloss.
Maybelline Color Whisper: The newest range in the Target or drugstore aisle invites you to stock up. Lust for Blush offered buttery, blinding shine, with liberal, blushed out coverage.
Gloss It Up:
Sonia Kashuk Fairy: It’s a whispery pale pink and offers so much light reflective shine, without much glitter or gunk.
