Beauty

Spring is fast approaching, or so I like to keep telling myself as I shovel snow out of my driveway. Spring means, among other things, that your makeup gets lighter – either in color, texture, or both. Jane Iredale Cosmetics, being non-comedogenic, allergy/sensitivity-free, and so gentle that it’s recommended by plastic surgeons and dermatologists, might just be your new best friend when the temperatures start to rise. Who knew rocks could bring so much joy? Debuting in 1994, Jane Iredale was the first complete makeup line to offer color enhancement and provide proven skin benefits. Her products are based on micronized minerals and do not contain chemical dyes, preservatives, or fillers (like the skin-drying talc found in many major cosmetics lines).

This spring, Jane Iredale is unveiling her six-piece Fresh as Air collection: Super-Shape Me Eyebrow Kits, Amazing Matte, Wild Apple PureGloss, Jane PureMoist LipColour, PurePressed Eye Shadow Trios in Brown Sugar and Sea Foam.

I have a bit of an eyebrow obsession (both with my own and other peoples), so I love that Iredale has created a complete kit to manage your own brows. The Super-Shape Me Eyebrow Kit ($62) offers a system comprised of brow wax, two micronized mineral brow powders to define and fill in brows, a lemon lid primer to conceal ruddiness, a compact slanted precision tweezer, an angled brush to apply the primer and wax, and a double-ended shader to apply brow powder. Whew! All those goodies come in a gold compact case with a large mirror and is are available in Blonde, Auburn, and Brunette. Her new Amazing Matte loose powder ($31) is made from rice powder and is ideal for toning down that bloody awful facial shine that we all hate so much. Absorbent and translucent, it works over or under other mineral powders. The nude-hued Wild Apple PureGloss ($19) is shimmery without being inappropriately glittery for the office, making it a staple of the spring makeup look. This new PureGloss formula has a mint and ginger flavor which is tasty and invigorating without being overwhelming. The new PureMoist LipColour ($19) is reminiscent of a hibiscus flower – a natural warm, sheer coral shade. This color is particularly light reflective and special since it contains genuine 24-karat gold flakes. Who needs jewelry when your lipstick is made of gold? The PurePressed Eye Shadow Trios ($27) are truly beautiful, lightweight, and loaded with shimmer. The new “Brown Sugar” is a palette of chocolate-tinged shades of purple and lilac. “Sea Foam” is a trip to a tropical island housed in a little compact – a gorgeous shade of teal combined with a frosted ice blue and gray. I’m a big fan of one of the older Trios as well; “Khaki Kraze” is a set of ecru, chocolate, and olive shades, and very flattering for us brown-eyed girls out there.

In addition to all the great shades in the Fresh As Air collection, Jane Iredale has an entire catalog of fantastic products – everything from mineral bases to lipsticks to tattoo camouflage!

One of the amazing things about Iredale’s Amazing Base loose minerals and PurePressed pressed minerals is that they provide a foundation, powder, concealer and sunscreen all in a single package. I’m a fan of anything that will save me some time in applying my makeup at 6:00AM, so this is a big deal. Both the loose minerals and the pressed minerals are extremely lightweight yet provide complete coverage. The lightness of the products make it a definite must-have for the spring and summer months, when that last thing you want is to be covered in an unbreathable layer of foundation. The Amazing Base ($42) is available in 11 shades with an SPF of 20, and PurePressed ($48) in 18 shades with an SPF of 18. The shades run the gamut from super-pale to deep mahogany, so you can be sure to find a shade to suit your skin.

Jane Iredale’s eye shadows are absolutely stunning – the staying power is second-to-none, and her colors are innovative. The Eye Shadow Kit palette contains 5 shades, as well as a high-quality shadow brush. I adore the Bling Shadow Kit ($52), which contains gorgeous opalescent shades of blue, violet, gold, green, and pink; if you’re in the market for something a bit less glam, try the Daytime Kit ($46) with its more neutral hues of iridescent white, almond, and shades of brown. The perfect companion piece to the shadow kit, of course, is the Multi-Gloss Kit ($38), which contains five of her most popular PureGloss shades – Black Currant, Candied Rose, Iced Mocha, Raspberry and Apricot Fizz. These glosses are rich yet sheer, and chock-full of organic oils and extracts. And they taste like lemony ginger!

Jane Iredale is available at spas, cosmetic apothecaries, and medical clinics worldwide – call 1-800-817-5665 or visit www.janeiredale.com for locations.
