Beauty

By Dina Fierro

Between Shakespeare in the Park, baseball games at Yankee Stadium and Coney Island’s Siren Music Festival, our calendars are chock full of culture, Americana and fun in the sun this season. And while summer beauty takes a lighter hand – we favor tinted moisturizer with SPF, mascara, blush and a swipe of gloss – you’ll want save your skin before you hit the sheets by removing every stitch with one of this season’s best makeup removers.

The Best:

We simply cannot say enough good things about BalmsAway, the new makeup remover from theBalm. This sweet, vintage-inspired tin contains a vitamin A, C and E infused salve. Simply massage a small amount gently over both eyes and tissue off. Voila, every stitch of makeup is removed sans irritation and the eye area is left gently moisturized.

Visit Sephora stores or www.sephora.com to purchase.

The Rest:

Sweetly packaged (you’ll have a hard time parting with the bottle when it’s empty) and effective, Paul & Joe Beaute’s new Eye Make-Up Remover WP gently removes the most stubborn waterproof makeup (see girlactik beauty’s Eye Glazes in this month’s Best Bets).

Available at Bergdorf Goodman or via www.asos.com.

ole_henriksen.jpg

For a soothing makeup removal experience, pick up a tub of Ole Henriksen’s Purifying Eye Make-Up Remover Pads. Soaked in a gentle, oil-free formula, these cotton pads leaves lids moisturized but not greasy and take off every stitch of makeup with just a few swipes.

Available at www.skinstore.com.

decleor.jpg

Aromatherapy experts Decleor launched their Eye Make-up Remover Gel just in time for steamy summer days. Cornflower Floral Water decongests lids while Orange Blossom Floral Water and Pro-vitamin B5 nourish lashes and promote growth. The gentle gel consistency of the Eye Makeup Remover Gel cools the eye area and is gentle enough for the most delicate of skin types.

Visit Sephora stores or www.sephora.com to purchase.

chantecaille.jpg

Chantecaille’s Rose Eye Makeup Remover smells heavenly and is packaged in a luxe glass bottle that you’ll be proud to display. While the botanically based and paraben-free formula cooled my eye area, I also felt mild stinging. Sensitive skinned girls should ask for a sample before splurging on the full sized bottle.

everyday_minerals.jpg

We wanted to love Everyday Mineral’s Cosmetic Wet Wipes but sadly it wasn’t meant to be. Let’s count off their virtues first, shall we? They’re biodegradable, flushable and made from all-natural ingredients. Not to mention, at just $3.75 for 80 wipes, they’re good for the wallet in these uncertain fiscal times. BUT (and it’s a big one), the medicinal smell was a bit much to bear and it took several swipes of the textured wipe to remove most – not even all – of our eye makeup. If that doesn’t scare you off, visit www.everydayminerals.com to purchase.
