Beauty editors and makeup mavens may eternally search for the perfect shade of red lipstick. It’s a journey that may never yield a “Holy Grail” hue or brand, and one that continues even when you do find what you think is the essential red!

But what about the search for the perfect pink gloss?

Unearthing a flawless, universal, goes-with-everything pink presents equally as many challenges, as you want a product that isn’t too goopy; that isn’t too frosty; that doesn’t wash you out; that complements a porcelain and/or tanned skin tone; that goes great with a dark, smoky eye; that isn’t too princess’y. See what I mean? It’s not as easy as you might think. Pink Gloss is the new Red Lipstick: beautiful and show stopping, but also elusive!

The search for the perfect pink pout is made infinitely easier, and for a good cause, to boot. Since October is Breast Cancer Awareness month, we’ve again rounded up our favorite BCA products that allow you to THINK PINK! Proceeds from these products benefit a variety of breast cancer awareness initiatives while allowing you your daily dose of beauty.

Remember, every three minutes, a woman is diagnosed with breast cancer. While these products will make you look good and allow you to show Pink Pride, purchasing them should make you feel terrific. So whatever BCA product you choose, take the extra 10 minutes to educate yourself even further about the charity and cause that your purchase benefits. Thank you.

Smashbox’s Forever Limitless Longwear Lip Gloss is a deep mix of bubblegum and mauve and it glides on lips in two quick swipes and suits all skin tones thanks to its universally flattering shade. It does last and conditions lips and has a liquid lipstick texture, without sacrificing shine. Proceeds are donated to The Breast Cancer Research Foundation.

Look good while doing good when you paint your pout with Youngblood’s Pink Hope gloss, which is a golden pink spiked with glistening shimmer. It looks stunning when paired with lightly sunkissed skin. Youngblood founder and President Pauline Youngblood Soli was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2009 and her early detection was key to her recovery. She’s now cancer-free but she continues to support the cause, as proceeds benefit the National Breast Cancer Foundation, a nonprofit that provides mammograms to women in need and those who can’t easily afford the procedure. I found that when you dab a little extra of this gloss in the center of your lips, they look fuller. Try it!

Bobbi Brown’s limited edition BCA set includes Pink Flower Shimmer Lip Gloss and Sandwash Pink Lipstick. You can channel ’60s sex kitten with black liner, three coats of black mascara and a slick of each of these lip products, which are available at Bobbi Brown counters at fine department stores.

Sheer, shimmery and sexy, Shiseido’s Pop Life Luminizing Lip Gloss is a bold pink which Shiseido Artistic Director Dick Page suggests can be paired with a soft pink shadow for his exclusive “In the Pink” look, which he created specifically for this campaign. The “In the Pink” look is soft and not as monochromatic as it might sound on paper. Your lips will be super sumptuous and this shade is complimentary to all skin tones. Shiseido will donate $5 for ever tube sold to Cancer and Careers, which supports working women living with cancer.

Celebrity makeup artist Ramy Gafni is himself a cancer survivor, and every year, he offers up a new and beautiful BCA product. This season, he created the Shiksa Face Gloss, a portable compact that contains a silvery pink cream that can be applied liberally with fingers on your eyelids and your cheeks, but it’s most “Oooh” and “Aah” inspiring when dabbed on lips and mixed with a clear lip balm. It follows Gafni’s mantra of “minimal makeup, maximum impact” and 25% of the proceeds from the month of October will be donated to The Young Survival Commission, an organization which concentrates on critical issues, such as quality of life, research and advocacy, that face young women with breast cancer who are under the age of 40.

Conditioning and caring for your lips before you apply your preferred pink gloss is also essential. MISSION Skincare’s Pink Lemonade Lip Balmer from tennis star Serena Williams’ line is a buttery balm that’ll keep your lips moist for eight hours. It’s loaded with SPF and has a light, pink lemonade flavor to boot and is excellent for those of you with gym membership and an athletic side, as the line was engineered with an athletic gal’s needs in mind. A dollar from each sale will be donated to The Young Survival Commission during the month of October, as well.

As an aside, you can also enjoy a pretty pink pedicure with OPI’s Pink of Hearts Nail Lacquer, which supports Susan G. Komen for the Cure™ in its promise to save lives and end breast cancer forever. The 2010 edition of Pink of Hearts is a pale pink that is meant to inspire and uplift the spirits. The polish will follow in the footsteps of its namesake 2007, 2008 and 2009 Nail Lacquers in raising awareness of breast cancer during the month of October. OPI will be once again making a donation of $25,000 to Komen for the Cure.
