Over the past few months, known to many as “Awards Show Season,” the BNLA team has been nosing around town to uncover the lesser talked-about celeb secrets. As we know by now, despite what the nominees claim, a lot of prep work leads up to their walks down the red carpets. Just ask their publicists and stylists.
This season, while Rachel Zoe and her contemporaries were pulling gowns around the globe, every A-lister was home doing a little prep work of her own. Extra private training sessions and Botox aside, we’ve uncovered some popular go-to secrets the celebs swear by…off the record of course.
As Annie sang it best, “You’re never fully dressed without a smile.” No one knows this better than Hollywood. The perfect pearly white smile is an essential accessory. Always.
To keep teeth sparkling, Supersmile has become a staple in most Hollywood powder rooms. Used regularly on a dry toothbrush, this toothpaste brightens smiles, rinsing away any signs of coffee or red wine appreciation. Also from the brand comes Supersmile Quikee, a small purse-friendly touchup tube that helps remove stains and freshens breath – no rinsing needed. Products available at Ulta in West Hollywood or http://www.supersmile.com.
A week prior to red carpet appearances, the La Prairie Spa at the Beverly Hills Hotel is booked morning to night. A longtime favorite emulsion of Hollywood starlets, the La Prairie skincare collection is amongst the finest in the world. And when there’s no time for spa visits, the latest line that has Hollywood’s upper echelon glowing is the La Prairie White Caviar Système.
A standout favorite in this luxurious collection is The White Caviar Illuminating Cream. It absorbs into skin almost immediately. Using powerful actives for lightening, detoxifying, moisturizing and firming, this light cream drenches the skin with moisture as it brightens, firms and gives a more overall even skin tone. Like all La Prairie formulas, the scent is lovely.
La Prairie White Caviar Système products are available at Saks Fifth Avenue, Beverly Hills.
Nary a hair out of place, from perfectly coiffed updos on down, the ladies of the silver screen make sure to have wax appointments scheduled a day or two prior to big events. This season, a tiny salon called The Beehive of Beverly Hills hosted many A-listers needing to de-fuzz and shape eyebrows, arms, bikinis, and so on.
Nestled discreetly in an office building, the private location has attracted those wanting to steer clear of paparazzi. Try to book with Natalia, who is apparently meticulous and pretty close to painless.

What else would follow a wax or a scrub, but a tan?
Even though Ms. Lohan didn’t attend the Oscars this year, we hear her Sevin Nyne Tanning Mist certainly did. Healthy glowing skin will always be “in” on the west coast, as well as on camera. Whereas we always appreciate the milky glamour of one Cate Blanchett, these days even Reese Witherspoon has been looking a bit more sun-kissed. Both male and female actors have been known to keep an Airbrush Tanning Pro on speed dial – Sevin Nyne Creator, Lorit Simon has been on call for years.
To offer consumers at-home golden sunless color, she collaborated with client Lindsay Lohan to develop a hydrating tan-in-a-can infused with Goji Berries and other antioxidants. So, even if our people aren’t in contact with Lorit’s people, we can at least pick up her potion at Sephora in Santa Monica.
