As a beauty editor and writer, I’m privileged to be in the company of some super cool movers and shakers. I get the inside scoop on the newest trends in beauty, the latest advancements in skin treatments, meet top notch cosmetic doctors, and test out products and perfumes before they hit the store counters and share my opinions with you.
One of those top notch doctors I’ve had the good fortune to meet a number of times over the past few years is NY plastic surgeon Dr. Andrew Jacono, or Dr. J as his staff refers to him. He has shared with me his latest plastic surgery technique advancements that are performed on his beauty seeking high end Fifth Avenue clientele; and we’ve discussed our favorite new restaurants as he expertly and (almost) painlessly stuck a Botox filled needle in my forehead. One thing that has always impressed me about Dr. J is his giving nature. He’s involved with Healing the Children, an organization that does pro bono plastic surgery on children born with deformities so that they can grow up to lead normal lives.
His charitable nature doesn’t stop there and this Sunday, Feb 20th, 10 PM EST, premiering on the Discovery Fit & Health channel, please watch a new television series called Facing Trauma. This first episode features Dr Jacono as he reconstructs the faces of two women and one little girl who have been the victims of domestic abuse and the physical scars they’re left with. Dr J. was chosen for this series because of all the charity work he does which includes being the Senior Advisor of Face to Face, a national project which offers pro bono surgery to victims of domestic violence.

The heartwarming documentary is well worth watching and reminds us that we’ve still got a long way to go to putting an end to domestic violence; but that also there are some heroes out there who want to help them move on with their lives without the physical reminders of that abuse. Please have look at this clip and then tune in on Sunday night. http://www.vimeo.com/19735328
