City Pulse

Nestled away on one of the most prominent streets in the country, in one of the most lavish shopping districts lies a hidden gem of a hair salon. Ricardo Rojas Salon, at its new location on Madison Avenue is a small vintage-inspired boutique salon providing the best in hair expertise. For over fifteen years, Ricardo Rojas has styled the locks of A-list celebrities, countless photo shoots for magazines such as Vogue, W and Allure and continues to build on his resume with his newly revamped salon studio.

Having very curly and frizzy hair due to my Puerto Rican background, I always love stepping into a salon with a new stylist and seeing how they fare in taming my mane. After closing the gate to the old-fashioned freight elevator and taking it to the fourth floor, I stepped into the antique décor of the studio with glass chandeliers and pastel colored walls. I immediately stepped into the shampoo room for a good washing and glaze to add some shine. Next, it was my turn to see just how Ricardo would do with the frizzy curls that were beginning to form.

I sat in the single chair in his private studio and he asked just how straight I would like my hair to be. I told him not pin straight with a little volume. I kept waiting to see the flat iron come out, but I was mistaken. Ricardo was able to conquer the curls sans flat iron and I walked out of there ready for a night on the town. Ricardo told me he would love for me to come back and to give me the haircut that Penelope Cruz has in Vicky Cristina Barcelona and I think I may just take him up on that offer!

Ricardo Rojas Salon is located at 791 Madison Avenue at 67th Street on the 4th floor. Please visit for more information.
