City Pulse

By Ashley Goldsmith

Two of New York’s beauty staples have decided to celebrate their New York roots and create collections in the New Year dedicated to the city that never sleeps. Whether you’re an East Village girl, a Broadway babe or a New York Nude (see below), you won’t have trouble finding the perfect shade to rep you’re hood’.

First up, one of the BN staffs favorites, Dashing Diva. The salon opened its first outpost in the East Village 5 years ago and now has six locations in Manhattan, 3 in Brooklyn and one set to open this year on Long Island.

Appropriately titled “The Manhattan Collection”, you’ll find the perfect wintry brown named East Village, an actually-dark-blue-not-black-after-two-coats polish called NYPD Blue, a deep purple named Central Park After Dark and finally a classic red called The Red Carpet.

Head over to my personal favorite New York staple, Kiehl’s Since 1851. If you read about Kiehl’s day back in November, you’d know that after the store re-planted a pear tree on “Pear Tree Corner” in 2003, Mayor Bloomberg declared November 12th Kiehl’s Day. To help celebrate their history, snag some lip gloss from their four new “Simply Mahvelous” shades. Try out East Village Vibe in a milk chocolate tone, Lights on Broadway in shimmery rose, New York Nude a sandy color and Mahvelous Mauve a soft plum shade.

While there are many ways to enjoy the city many can only hope to live in someday, why not do so while looking great! In true New York style…
