I wasn’t one of those girls who grew up with visions of a princess wedding. Actually, I wasn’t even a real fan of the institution until I met my Prince Charming. But I’m of the unconventional, rocker sort – my own nuptials consisted of a 60-second ceremony at City Hall to which I wore a black cocktail dress (vintage designer, of course!), little white veiled hat, and white doc marten boots. We celebrated our honeymoon eve at an East Village dive bar and stopped to pick up tur-key sandwiches and a bottle of Dom Perignon for consumption back at home. At the time, it was perfect, but as a few years have gone by, the thought of an over-the-top day all about moi has become an obsession.
As if I needed any more encouragement to consider wiping out my bank account for another go- at-it, the fourth annual happening of “The Wedding Salon” conquers Gotham Hall. On Monday April 23rd (yeah, today), the matrimonial industry glitterati will peddle their wedding wonders while raising money for the Ovarian Cancer Research Fund. From wedding style evangelist Colin Cowie to the “Da Vinci of Cakes” Sylvia Weinstock to environmentally-correct “Green Wedding” displays by Flower Michele, you can find everything and anything to create the day of your dreams.
You can also pick up some beauty tips at the SAMY Haircare Lounge, get your brows shaped by the John Barrett Salon, drool over James Martin’s presentation of over one million dollars in diamonds, and preview Victoria’s Secret’s new bridal lingerie line. Assembled by illustrious affair administrator, Tatiana Byron, absolutely everything you’d need to setup your soiree is un-der one roof. (And you get a groovy gift bag stuffed with swag and gift cards by Lancome, Essie, Maybelline and many more). Here comes the bride…
“The Wedding Salon” runs from 4:00 to 9:00 PM at Gotham Hall (located at 1356 Broadway between 37th and 38th Streets). Visit www.weddingsalon.com or call 212.631.7777 for tickets.
