Italian import lovers delight – Balducci’s® Gourmet is opening an On the Go Café in midtown. Like a New York corner deli hopped-up on fine espresso, Balducci’s bared its high end approach to convenient dining to the press at a coming out event this month.
Mounds of sliced prosciutto, imported from Italian artisan purveyor Parmacotto set lofty standards for the future of this upscale take out eatery that serves everything from custom sandwiches made with local bread to sexy multicolored French macarons and cappuccinos.
Despite the large crowd, including Gossip Girl’s Kelly Rutherford, the packed circular room with its islands of crepes, coffee and canapés had moments of silence as guests indulged in all the nibbles available. “This is the most authentic gelato in New York City.” Emil Grosso, V.P. of Business Development, exclaimed while scooping imported creamy pistachio into brioche buns. Charged with searching the world for high quality products to fill the Balducci family of shops, Grosso likened a visit to the new café to a trip around an Italian market.
With its recent grand opening, visitors to the shop will find it easy to breeze through and pick up a custom made salad or a celebrity chef labeled pre-packaged snack like Cat Cora‘s sun dried olive snacks in the refrigerator cases.
Balducci’s began in 1946 as a small fruit cart in Greenwich Village. After a hiatus outside the city, it has returned to the Big Apple as a merchant of some of the highest quality treats available on the fly in NYC.
