Some might think the return of the eighties or peplums were the highlights of New York Fashion Week, but in our humble opinion the greatest introduction during NYFW was Aveda’s I CatWalk for Water campaign. The do-gooders over at Aveda hope to provide clean water to communities in need around the world by introducing the first ever “catwalk-athon”. By supporting your favorite fashion or beauty insider you can help Aveda and their partnering charities build wells in India, clean up rivers in China, help small farmers covert to organic and sustainable growing methods, as well as aiding in the development of clean water programs in under privileged countries.

A plethora of models, designers, hairstylists and makeup artists have chosen one of four charities to support, visit http://www.icatwalkforwater.com for a list of participants. Show support for your favorite fashion or makeup star by sponsoring their charity of choice, 100% of your donation will go directly to that organization.

Aveda has also organized Walk for Water, a series of walks in a number of cities to raise awareness and money to help protect clean drinking water. Taking place Sunday, April 26, 2009 participants will walk six kilometers, the average distance that women in developing countries walk to collect drinking water each and every day.
