If the Chelsea art scene seems to you like it is just getting a bit too cool these days with its squeaky clean galleries and exclusive clubs, take a walk on the wild side of Hell’s Kitchen this weekend, to rediscover some genuine urban rawness and un-self-conscious fun. A new tradition in one of Manhattan’s most vibrant historical neighborhoods, the Hell’s Kitchen Artists in Studio Tour is happening for the second time this Friday, Saturday and Sunday.
Meet local emerging and established artists, sculptors, photographers, performers, poets, musicians, comedians, dancers, film and video artists in their studios, homes or gardens, in galleries, theatres and businesses in Midtown West between 34th and 59th Streets, 8th avenue to 12th avenue from Friday May 21st to Sunday May 23rd. |
This three – day celebration will showcase the creativity of artists living and working in this dynamic district in the heart of the theatre world.
Maps will be available at every venue to provide a guide to the studios, apartments, hotels, banks, restaurants, theatres and businesses participating in the event.
The opening party will take place Friday May 21st at the Skyline Ballroom, 725 10th Avenue (at 49th street), (212.586.3400) and Sunday night, Port 41, 355 West 41st. Parties will include many performances and surprises for all.
