City Pulse
July 2010

By Ashley Goldsmith

If you need a little something to get you in the mood for 4th of July weekend, then you’re in luck! BN’s favorite annual summer music festival opens for the summer this Saturday July 3rd.

P.S. 1 MoMa Warm Up starts their 10-week music celebration in Long Island City fully equipped with a diverse group of experimental music and live bands, performances, and DJs. This year’s collaboration with the Young Architects Program focuses on designs that address sustainability, recycling and reuse.

The firm Solid Objectives created the exhibit Pole Dance, featuring a system of poles and bungees open to human action and environmental factors. The poles sway steadily from the bungee cords creating a ripple throughout the space. The sustainability factors come in to play as the bungee-connected grids collect rain for the plants throughout the courtyard space.

In addition to the new regulations of eco-friendly designs, for their twelfth year, Warm Up will devote July 24th, to showcasing music performances involving artists participating in the Greater New York exhibit, as a way to simultaneously activate the architectural Warm Up space and the museum’s interior.
