Forget pretzels, hotdogs, and Mister Softee. NYC’s tastiest mobile food staple is the cupcake. Since “NYC’s First Mobile Gourmet Cupcake Shoppe” hit the streets in June, CupcakeStop has fueled quite the buzz – sugar buzz, that is. Freshly baked from scratch every morning, the irresistible treats have sparked competition with cupcake kingpins such as Magnolia Bakery and Crumbs Bake Shop.

Owner and avid cupcake aficionado, Lev Ekster, is the man behind the bakery-on-wheels sensation. Since the shop’s debut, Lev and company have dreamed up 30 scrumptious varieties of cupcakes – with new flavors popping up on the menu each day. And while the CupcakeShop never divulges the flavors-of-the-day beforehand, the already infamous red velvet cupcake is now a menu staple.

Equally delectable: cookie dough and carrot cake. My personal favorite? Chocolate peanut butter swirl. Hey, a choc-a-holic gal has to stay true to her roots, right?

As if it couldn’t get any sweeter, your daily sugar-high is affordable too. Full-size cupcakes are $2.25 to $2.50, while the mini cupcakes are $1.00. Or find a reason to celebrate and pick up a dozen full-size cupcakes for $27 or a dozen minis for $10.
