City Pulse

Welcome to the birdcage ladies. This season, it’s all about architectural angles with caged footwear. Designers like YSL and Stella McCartney are taking your feet hostage while simultaneously producing a great trickle down effect to more reasonably priced designers and boutiques. So even though your feet are behind bars, you don’t have to be a prisoner of the recession.

Go for the look in Matiko Vaughn’s caged, buckled-leather wedge. Perfect for summer to give a bit of edge to flirty dresses, this shoe achieves the same aesthetic of its couture counterparts for a fraction of the price at only $168 at Urban Outfitters.

Flatten this look out a bit for a more everyday approach with this great Vida cutout oxford. This take on the harsher runway looks will carry you through summer and into fall as you pair it with your barely there frocks to your tweed blazer. And for only $78 at Urban Outfitters, your wallet can breathe a sigh of relief without sacrificing style.

But if you want to rival the fierceness of the runway, don’t go for an interpretation of the trend, dig into the real thing- well, sort of. Luichiny’s Star Bound cage platform bootie doesn’t leave anything to the imagination and is a steel at DSW for only $79.95.
