City Pulse

Here in America, we obviously take our liberties very seriously. So why not exercise your rights and bare your arms? This summer, ditch the barely there minis and the plunging necklines. Sexy chic isn’t about flaunting everything you’ve got but instead about leaving a little more to the imagination. On the spring/summer 2009 runways, designers are sending the message loud and clear that emphasizing the arms is the perfect way to stay chic and sophisticated while still adding that sultry side. From a fluttering cap sleeve to an ethereal gathered charmeuse halter, work on toning your arms and shoulders to create the perfect canvas for this season’s innovative sleeve designs.

Fashion houses like Miu Miu and Chloe framed the arms with sleeveless frocks and one shoulder silky sun dresses. And, fashionable starlets like Jessica Biel and Kirsten Dunst are showing off their guns in arm-emphasizing eveningwear. From sleeveless dresses to tanks to vests, get ready to flex.

This purple BCBG Max Azria dress is perfect for you best friend’s summer wedding or that cocktail party you have coming up. The layered bodice and ruffled one shouldered strap lead up to a great showcase of the shoulders and arms. It’s a bit pricy at $398 but something that you can hold onto for years.

I love this stretchy knit one-shouldered day to night dress. It has this sporty vibe, like it could be a modern tennis dress, which gives it a cool edge. It comes in three great colors, teal, tan and coral, for only $48 at Urban Outfitters.

I love the idea of the throwing a faded denim vest over a girly summer frock. Try this one from Forever 21.
