Having something custom made can seem so intimidating, and therefore very few of us ever look into the possibilities. However, with prices of high quality items skyrocketing and so-so quality items soaring to numbers that are simply not worth it, it’s time to look at what’s often known as bespoke, custom made, or even couture.
New York City designer Kenneth D. King is a master at creating custom clothes. The designer extraordinaire has created clothes and accessories for celebrities such as Elton John and Geena Davis. He’s got couture pieces in the permanent collection of the Victoria and Albert Museum in London, as well as in the closets of some of well heeled Park Ave ladies. But don’t let that make you think he sips tea with his pinky in the air. The guy can spot a flea market find better than anyone! He’s likely to show up for a casual lunch rocking a thrift shop jacket that he’s covered in Swarovski crystals, or in a couture jacket he whipped up that week from vintage Fortuny fabric. Kenneth’s friendly and talkative nature, and his passion for what he does will put you at ease immediately. I promise, you won’t feel like you’re in the company of an uptight couture designer who’s going to give you hell for suggesting a different button on your jacket.

So while Kenneth will create anything for you, his passion right now is with Pendleton fabric, specifically, their traditional wool blanket fabric that they’ve been continuously making for the American Indians for over one hundred years. He’s creating custom jackets and coats from these gorgeous patterns (there are many to choose from) that are truly outstanding. These saturated colors in bold patterns are unique and eye catching. Between the quality of the fabric and the quality of the Kenneth’s craftsmanship, you’ll have a work of art that you’ll be able to pass down to your grandkids…should you decide to have any. I’ve been wearing mine for the past month and the compliments are endless. This is truly a piece to treasure forever. It’s a rare combination of fun and fashion that’s traffic stopping, yet classic.
Price: Jackets are $2500.00 and Coats are $3000.00.
