Everyone loves a home-cooked meal, but it’s Father’s Day and there are so many fantastic restaurants in the city offering special menus, great cuisine and good times. Let’s give Pop a break from buying the groceries, grilling over a smoky barbeque and cleaning up the kitchen.
He must have a favorite place to dine in NYC, but here are our picks in various neighborhoods.
#1. Atrio Wine Bar @ Conrad New York
The magnificent 15-story atrium in the Conrad lobby is home to Atrio, a popular spot offering some of the most inspired Mediterranean cuisine with a twist. A winner of the 2014 Diners’ Choice Award, this is not your typical hotel restaurant.
Take Dad on a long stroll along the Hudson River and Battery Park and then head over to Atrio for lunch or dinner. The décor is sleek and modern with large windows washing the room with light, rich wood veneered walls and plush tan chairs — the dining room has an open view of the kitchen where diners can watch the front line do their magic.
I recommend the Ahi Tuna Tartar with ginger, hazelnut coconut emulsion and micro shiso. The fish is fresh and the combination with coconut and ginger gives it a sweet kick. The Prosciutto Pizza is topped with arugula, roasted cipolini onions and truffle oil. The flavors blend perfectly, smoky, a touch of sweet and a touch salty with a crispy crust. The Pan Seared Skate Wing with cauliflower puree, pea tendrils, cherry tomatoes and sauce grenobloise, named after a city in southeastern France. Traditionally, it’s browned butter, capers, parsley and pieces of lemon. It’s simply delicious.
This recommendation is for all of our downtown dads.

#2. Empire Steak House
With two locations in midtown, Empire Steak House is a good place for the dad who wants steak while the rest of the family wants other choices. The Sinanaj brothers created their dream restaurants after working for Peter Lugar Steakhouse in Brooklyn for over a decade. The dining room is sprawling and conveniently located near Times Square.
The $69.95 price fixed menu includes appetizer, entrée, side and desert plus a complimentary cigar for fathers. The menu: Fried Calamari, Baked Clams, soup of the day and salads to start. The entrees include Prime Sirloin Steak, Prime Rib Eye, Filet Mignon, Lamp Chops, Veal Chop, Filet of Sole, Shrimp Scampi, Crab Cakes, Chicken Parmigiana or Francese, Pasta Primavera or Lobster Ravioli.
During my visit, one of the Sinanaj boys approached our table with his distinct sense of humor. He knows he’s entertaining. Perhaps your father will get a kick out of him or just kick him.

#3. The Water Club
A stunning interior, beautiful views from the East side plus convenient to get to, we’d be remiss not to recommend The Water Club.
This Father’s Day they are offering an amazing selection of inspired cuisine. The menu is offered from 12 noon and runs the entire day. It includes a specialty cocktail, appetizer, entrée and desert with choices like Steak Tartar, Lobster Stew, Swordfish Steak, 18-oz Filet Mignon on the bone, Lobster Risotto, Slow Roasted Tender Lamb Loin and dessert includes Baked Alaska or Brooklyn Ice Cream.
