City Pulse

By Ashley Goldsmith

After a recent vacation to San Francisco, unofficially the hippie capital of the country, I was inspired by the constant green efforts around me. Recycling is standard procedure everywhere and composting is becoming frequent in households, everyone uses their own bags, most coffee shops and restaurants use recyclable to-go containers, etc. It’s really a solid effort that doesn’t stop at the individual but transcends throughout the entire city. In celebration of Earth Day, Wednesday April 22nd, everyone is making an effort to make positive eco-changes across the board. From restaurants to beauty brands, Earth Day is a big deal this year.

butter LONDON:
The popular polish brand is offering a free nail lacquer of your choice if you’re one of the first 500 customers to log onto http://www.butterlondon.com on Earth Day. If we’re lucky enough to log on in time we’ll be selecting Muggins, an opaque lilac shade that’s perfectly on trend this season.

il Buco:
The eco-conscious Mediterranean restaurant will be working with the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) to help protect the Amazon Rainforest. il Buco will reduce its customers total Lunch bill by 15%. In turn, the restaurant will donate, out of its pocket, the 15% saved by its guests, now through Saturday, April 25th. http://www.ilbuco.com

Physicians Formula:
From now through April 30th, a portion of proceeds from the purchase of any Physicians Formula Organic Wear product will benefit Global Green USA. A non-profit organization dedicated to a global value shift toward a sustainable and secure future by reconnecting humanity with the environment. Available for purchase at drugstores nationwide.

Sephora:
Log onto http://www.facebook.com/sephora and send the Sephora Pretty Planet Shopper virtual gift tote to any of your Facebook friends. Then redeem your own promotional code for a free Pretty Planet Shopper with any Sephora purchase at http://www.sephora.com now through April 26th.

hessnatur:
The leading global organic apparel brand has teamed up with Dr. Muhammad Yunus, founder of the Grameen Foundation, to launch a limited edition tee shirt designed by hessnatur Creative Director, Miguel Adrover, on Earth Day. The tee shirt, priced at $20 and appropriately titled “The World in Your Hand” tee, donates 25% from the sale of each shirt to the rural education project of the Grameen Foundation.
