City Pulse

On Sunday night, in a shimmer of organza, chiffon and sequins, Elise Overland delivered a runway debut as sophisticated as it was versatile, as tough as it was ethereal. In just two seasons, this Norwegian-born designer – and socialite favorite – has moved flawlessly from leather-laden rock ‘n’ roll roots to a confident, feminine maturity.

With music reverberating through the cavernous space that is Exit Art, fashion darlings craned forward in anticipation as the first model began her power strut down the runway. A delicate, perforated lambskin dress in the softest rose nude hue imaginable; minimal make-up for a youthfully refined look; and an easy ballerina bun, the perfect balance between discipline and femininity.

Designed for the city girl, Elise Overland’s Spring/Summer 2010 collection is a testament to the customer herself, with the pieces constituting a chic yet wearable capsule wardrobe: a spotted crepe de chine cap-sleeve dress for a summer’s day at the office; a flesh sheer tank and trouser combo, accented with a divine rose gold metallic lambskin blazer for an indulgent afternoon of shopping; or an oversized, soft ivory godet dress for cocktails at sunset.

The collection exudes casual elegance, as sporty basics are infused with razor-sharp lines and almost architectural structure: paneling on a bustier dress, cap-sleeves, artfully cut-out backs, ruched skirts, and draped dresses. Soft fabrics and a muted palette suggest a sense of nostalgia, whilst black leathers and structured shapes confront the present fearlessly. Overland’s collection functions almost as a second skin: versatile and stylish, refined yet self-assured, these pieces are about what it means and how it feels to be a smart, successful, stylish woman.
