Despite this crazy back and forth weather, take a chance and head outside to these greeat events. Just be sure to bring jacket or shawl just in case. It might get nippy. Who knows?

Fall Plant Market

Houseplants, mums, pumpkins, and more will be sold for $5-$10 each at Madison Square Park, named for James Madison (fourth President of the United States, for a brief history lesson) this Thursday, October 4th and Friday, October 5th from 11:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. The funds will go to its not-for-profit organization to help keep Madison Square Park “bright, beautiful and lively.” Enter at 23rd street to the Southern Plaza. Did you also know that Madison Square Park has existed as an urban public space since 1686? For more information and other events, visit

Madame Alessandra’s Astrology

Plan or pop on over to Merchant’s House Museum and see renowned astrologer Madame Alessandra on Friday, October 5th from 1:00 p.m. – 3:00 p.m. “to see what the stars have in store for you.” A 15-minute reading is $20 and appointments are suggested but not required. She asks that you come prepared with the exact date and time (to the minute, if possible) of your birth. Merchant’s House Museum – NYC’s only family home preserved intact, inside and out, from the 19th century – is located at 29 East 4th Street (between Lafayette & Bowery). For more information or to make an appointment call 212-777-1089 or visit their website at

Yoga in the Garden

Yes, we know it’s early when most of you wake, but get a good start on the day, meaning 8:45 a.m. – 10:00 a.m., and join Yoga in the Garden with Sydney MacGinnis. Every Tuesday, the Bartow-Pell’s grounds at Pelham Bay Park hosts stretching, balancing, breath exercises, deep relaxation, and brief meditation for an easeful body and peaceful mind. Bring a mat or towel and wear comfortable clothing. The fee per session is $175 (or $158 for Pelham Art Center and Bartow-Pell members). Pre-registration is required, so please call the Pelham Art Center at (914) 738-2525.
