They have merged comfort and sexiness, to delicious results! I mean, can you remember the last time you wore something sexy and kept scratching? Not a very sexy look. Wednesday night I was lucky enough to be invited to the CD release party of Jobraith’s Lonely Planet Boy (attack Records). The party was held at Serena at the Chelsea Hotel. The Serena is a basement lounge/restaurant decorated in black, white and red. It’s posh and slightly subversive at the same time. All dim lights and art moderne furniture, and black lacquer furniture everywhere. Whenever I have an event to go to and can wrangle a plus one, I alternate between my friends Ivan and Diana. Both are good sports, willing to try anything and have excellent senses of humor. Among the places they’ve accompanied me have been parties and shows. I’ve dragged Ivan to a fashion show and Diana to a party at Cielo. The result of that party is Diana’s newest fav phrase, “That’s sooo second row.” We were talking to some people who work fashion shows there and now that’s all I hear.
Getting back to the party, besides listening to Jobraith’s albums there was a reunion of sorts of his original band, the producer of his first album and Wayne/Jane County. She held court in a corner.

I just got another holiday CD. It’s silly, extremely non-pc, twisted and hilarious. I’m talking about John Waters first ever holiday CD, A John Waters Christmas (New Line Cinema). Run don’t walk and get this release. It’s the antidote to all the saccharine crap that will bloat your ears. You’ve got Fat Daddy singing, “Fat Daddy” Tiny Tim doing his rendition of “Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer” doo wop by Stormy Weather. Other artists on the disc are Little Cindy, Roger Christian, Rita Faye Wilson, The Coctails and more.
The Fight Nothing New Since Rock N’ Roll (Repossession Records) I never knew nihilism could be so fun. This quartet out of Dudley, England has been compared to the Buzzcocks, Green Day, Rancid and Yellowcard. It’s not hype, they are that good. The band has tightly composed pop- punk tunes that have a universal appeal. They swagger, they pose and they play furiously. And well. Lead singer K8 (guitar/vocals) could out snarl Mick Jagger. She backed up ably and well by her band mates; Jack (drums), Scott (guitar), and Matt (bass). The CD is produced by Bill Stevenson (Descendents, Black Flag). The final result is polished, tight and as angry as a feral cat with a sick sense of humor. Just buy it.
SpongeBob Squarepants is a popular little guy. Halloween I saw too many SpongeBob costumes to count. He’s got a movie coming out in a few days and the soundtrack has just hit the stores. SpongeBob SquarePants Movie Music from the Movie and More (Sire Records). Let’s talk about his buddies on the disc; he got The Flaming Lips, “SpongeBob and Patrick Confront The Psychic Wall of Energy, ” Wilco’s “Just A Kid” Motorhead’s “You Better Swim, ” and Avril Lavigne’s “SpongeBob SquarePants Theme.” Other artists are; Electrocute, The Shins, Ween, and more. Go ahead tell the clerk it’s for your niece/nephew. Yeah, sure.
