Gloves: they never fail to serve their duty without a side dish of drama. They warm, they wow, they….whaa?! While recently shopping for the perfect pair, you may have come across the inevitable: he two-in-ones, the fingerless, the knuckleless; the innovation, the insanity. With a smorgasbord of styles to choose from this season, your hands must be in a serious new kind of shake-up. To keep your mitts on the meetin’ and greetin’ path to success, I’ve made a shopping cheat sheet to point you in the right direction of your perfect wintertime hand-holder.
Opera Length
Act out your Shopgirl fantasies and head to Saks to own the extra-long glove style that every fashion editor has been preaching, as paired with 3/4-length sleeves, the defining silhouette of the season. Look for the Carolina Amato pair made from Italian kidskin leather accompanied by three pearl buttons on the closure. $325

Driving
Head over to Bloomies to check out the store brand’s nappa leather knuckleless, backless, button-shut driving gloves. While you might not be the one behind the cab wheel, the style’s fresh enough to wear on the street. More Vespa than Harley, they manage to be both edgy and dainty. So sold. Originally $35, on sale for $25.99

Two-in-One
I remember a time when there was much agony in the choice between mittens or gloves and leather or cashmere. Two pairs of gloves from Anthropologie, however, make the warmth vs. grip debate a thing of the past. The Dorest pullover mittens, made from wool and cashmere, have fingerless gloves hidden beneath a removable mitten top. $48

In terms of settling the fabric debate, the appropriately named twice as nice gloves are cashmere but suede on the palms and underside of fingers. Originally $128, on sale for $59.95

Fingerless
If you’re ever caught downtown without gloves, make a quick trek over to Marc Jacobs to pick up a pair of very affordable, knit, fingerless gloves. Afterwards, I recommend stopping down the street at Magnolia for a finger lickin’ good cupcake, if only to test the glove’s true dexterity, of course. $3
