Recently, my sister cut all of her beautiful, natural red hair off and donated it to Locks of Love. She’s now sporting a seriously chic asymmetrical bob and was left with a lingering warm-fuzzing-feeling-inside. If you’re looking to update your do and want to do so for a good cause, than look no further than the Mark Garrison Salon. This Wednesday, the salon will be hosting a Pantene Beautiful Lengths Event in partnership with the Looking Glass Theatre, offering free haircuts with the donation of 8 inches or more ponytail length.

Pantene Beautiful Lengths is a campaign that encourages people to grow, cut and donate their hair to create free, real-hair wigs for women who’ve lost their hair due to cancer. Says Garrison, “Pantene Beautiful Lengths is one of the greatest campaigns that support women who are suffering from cancer. Having my salon participate is one of the best ways I can give back and helps encourage women to support each other through hair donations.”

Visit for donation requirements.

Have you ever had one of those days where a good hug could really turn things around? Enter Free Hugs Day courtesy of Paul Mitchell Schools. Take a quick ferry ride to the Staten Island Mall tomorrow from 2-8:30pm to hug it out.

Inspired by Juan Mann’s popular Free Hugs Campaign, students from 100 schools will head for malls, parks and other popular spots dressed in their signature black outfits, carrying handmade ‘Free Hugs’ signs and naturally sporting fabulous styles, to offer hugs and make people’s day. But if the hugs don’t cheer you up entirely, I’m sure some retail therapy at the mall should do the trick.

For more information, visit the official Free Hugs Campaign Web site at Check out to locate a school near you.
