If you grew up coveting Dorothy’s Ruby Red Slippers and relish your archived SATC episodes for Manolo/Choo appearances, then heads up ladies, there’s a new cobbler in town and your feet will be forever changed.
If you’re anything like me – on an eternal quest for the perfect pair or shoes – chances are, you’re like the Russian judge, always subtracting points for style ‘missteps.’ Heel too chunky, toe too pointy, fabric too flashy, seams too sloppy. Shoe lovers can be an ornery bunch, no doubt and most of us wish that someone would custom-make a pair of kicks that work on all the important levels: style (fabulous), comfort (lots of padding) and to the envy of friends and strangers (now is that so hard?).
Welcome to the world of Tupli, brainchild of two immigrants from Russian and Poland who set out to pave new ground in how women wear their shoes. With no prior experience, Kathy Myczkowski and Tamara Chubinidze decided that there was an avenue of opportunity in the marketplace for high-end, custom-made shoes, where the client gets to play the designer, dreaming up the perfect pair with a plethora of options in fabrics, styles, adornments and patterns to boot!
We’ve all experienced the frustration with finding the perfect pair of shoes to match the perfect dress and how difficult it is to track down fuchsia shoes when you just can’t settle for scarlet or rose. Now, in a matter of weeks (rush orders can be accommodated in case of fashion emergency), you will sport those metallic, open toe, wrap-around-the-ankle with a 2.5 inch heel perfect purple pumps and turn heads in the process.
Half the fun is going to the Tupli showroom and having your measurements taken (no prior dieting necessary), getting your sketch drawn (which you can frame for posterity) and yaying or naying the various samples they devise based on your vision. See, you truly are a princess, just like Cinderella!
Brides in distress, take comfort. Your Vera Wang is about to have a new best friend! Like a Chop’t salad bar, the combinations are infinite. Move over, Louboutin, start shaking in your shoes cause you’re being usurped by the next big thing and that’s no small feet!
