City Pulse

Each and every day we are bombarded with products and services that entice us with “insider” secrets on more ways to be confident and sexy; but do you want to know what’s actually alluring? Being healthy. It brings forth happiness and a beauty from the inside that’s so illuminating everyone can see it on the outside. That’s why we were so inspired by Candice Kumai (food writer, two-time cookbook author, Top Chef alumnus and Iron Chef America judge) when we met her at a celebration for the launch of her new book, Cook Yourself Sexy. The event was hosted by Eggland’s Best eggs, which has joined forces with Candice to help raise awareness about the importance of maintaining a healthy weight in the prevention of breast cancer (a cause very close to our hearts).

Candice’s motto for the book is simple: Instead of combing through your closet to amp your appeal, head for your kitchen. Because feeling good translates to looking good too. Your cupboard (if stocked correctly) has all the ingredients to help you whip up dishes that can be delicious, and sometimes even decadent, while still being good to your body. The book is jammed packed with recipes that are easy to follow and tricks of the trade, including the info on the ideal equipment, pantry staples, and fridge finds; everything you need to get going. Plus, every aspect of your meals is covered – from breakfasts, soups and salads to appetizers, dinners and desserts with veggies, seafood, and so much more.

One of our fave parts of the book? Food with benefits, a true friend indeed! This section includes a list of items with the 411 on their key nutrients and what they can do for you. Of course, eggs is on the roster since they are chocked full of protein, vitamins A, D, B6, and B12, folate, and choline; all of which combine to become a lean source of protein that has anti-inflammatory properties, promotes healthy eyes, and boosts brain function.

The dishes from the day that we couldn’t stop drooling over were the So Cali Niçoise Salad and the Cherry-Pistachio Clafoutis. To learn more about Candice and her culinary creations, head to; for more info on Eggland’s Best, their products and breast cancer awareness initiative, log on to
