Nolcha Fashion Week is an award-winning event for indie designers to present their collections to a global audience of press, retailers, stylists and industry elite. Now in its 5th year, Nolcha has excelled as a platform of discovery and promotion of edgy fashion designers through runway shows and exhibits during Mercedes Benz NYFW. Here’s the scoop on the menswear collections – All hail the Brit boys!
Pretty Green offers cool urban clothes, ideal for college dudes with a rebellious streak and mean style. Standout pieces are a leather jacket that hits below the hip (love it!), oversized colorful sweaters, windbreakers, and the must-have casual relaxed jean.
Firetrap boasts a somewhat grungy look, with rumpled jackets, casual khaki jackets, big cozy sweaters, and cuffed jeans. In contrast, some nice roomy suits are included. Cat Footwear provided the funky shoes.
Bolongaro Trevor has the best jackets, like sexy cotton numbers with contrasting leather sleeves or cushy shoulders details. His sweaters are more fitted and he’s not afraid of board shorts! The look is sharp.
In refreshing contrast to the first three moody designers, Richard Smith Prêt à Porter showcases gorgeous suits – the collection is vibrant, exciting, and oozes old-world sex appeal. Yes, suits can achieve this. Jackets and pants are rightly fitted and come in fab patterns for the funky Don Drapers and brilliant captains of industry we’d want to get our hands on. There are also a debonair tuxedo and white suit – bow ties, suspenders, and walking sticks included – and all styling works. Some lovely details are the touches of color, like the much-appreciated burgundy swatch on the back jacket vents. (Two side notes: It was a treat to see NYC real estate broker Ryan Serhant strut the catwalk. Check out PK Greenfield’s cuffs and links story this month for perfect accessories to wear with Smith’s suits.)
Nolcha was presented by RUSK®, a leading line for the art of hairdressing. Stylists used the RUSK Designer Collection™ to work their magic on the chic tousled heads wearing Pretty Green, Firetrap, and Bolongaro Trevor to the über sleek hair of Richard Smith models.
RUSK products are available at fine salons and at Ulta and Cosmoprof stores in NYC. (http://www.rusk1.com).
