Nanette Lepore showed a fun and pretty collection this season at New York Fashion Week, keeping with the brand’s aesthetic in an updated way. Lepore has always been known for her feminine take on contemporary trends, and its good to know some things never change. Inspired by the porcelain room at the Charlottenburg Palace in Berlin, the collection was full of colorful prints mixed together and a fresh take on gingham and stripes. There was also a few splashes of swimwear, and towards, the end, some beautiful printed organza dresses with amazing fluidity down the runway. Floral prints included a color story if bright greens and blues, with a hint of yellow in the beginning, then moving on to a sunshine orange/peach with light aqua blue. There was some unconventional pairing of colors, but it was very fresh and exciting to see such fun prints on feminine and chic pieces.

The makeup look was created by Max Delorme for MAC Cosmetics. The idea was to make a look that was beautiful but powerful; something to contrast the femininity of the collection. Delorme wanted to create a look that was strong yet soft and radiant. The focus for the look was on the eyes. To start, Delorme explained that having fresh, radiant skin was the key. First, the artists used a layer of MAC Studio Moisture Cream for healthy skin. Then, to even out the skin tone and revitalize the skin, Delorme used MAC Smooth Studio Sculpt SPF 15 Foundation. For a little extra shine, MAC Luna Cream Color base was used on the cheekbones and contours of the forehead. To set the makeup on the face, a light layer of MAC Transparent Finishing Powder was used for the final touch for the skin. Then for the eye, Delorme started out with a line right by the root of the upper lashes with Kohl Powder Eye Pencil. Then, he used MAC Penultimate Eyeliner on top and used a brush to blend the two for a gently smudged look. Once the liner was in place, it came time for the color. For the rest of the eyelid, Delorme varied the colors depending on the model, and ended up sticking with blue and lavender. He used MAC Chromaline on the eyelid, which is a creamy, concentrated color that can be used on multiple areas of the face. This burst of color is the key to the look.

For the hair, James Pecis of Bumble and Bumble explained the inspiration for the look as “post-modern picnic”. Later, after seeing the gingham and floral prints in the collection, this term made more sense. What Pecis means by “post-modern picnic” is a nod to the 50’s in the look; like the Nanette Lepore girl is feminine but she likes to have fun and live in the moment. The look is a textured ponytail with some volume on the top of the head for that little extra bit of glamour. To prep the hair, Pecis used Bumble and Bumble Thickening Hairspray to work throughout the hair for some body, texture, and movement. Then the hair was pulled back into a ponytail in the middle of the head, because if the ponytail is high, it looks very young, and when its low, it looks older. The perfect medium is right in the middle. The top part of the hair was curled with a curling iron to work in some extra body, then it was pulled back and included in the ponytail. The overall look is very free and full of movement, and its set in place with Bumble and Bumble Does It All hairspray.

The feeling at the Nanette Lepore show this season was very fun and care free, yet feminine and put-together. The cool band Brazilian Girls was playing live for the show, giving the collection a very exotic and fun vibe. Lepore showed a beautiful collection that reminds us that she know how to have fun in her collections. Lepore explained, “Women need to be strong, intelligent, and remember that in addition to clothes, these things are important too.”
