CP Palate: St-Germain Elderflower Liqueur

By Ashley Goldsmith
As if we needed another reason to prove just how posh the French are, they’ve gone and created a liquor made from 100% handpicked elderflowers. That’s right, men called un bohemian, bicycle through the alps and gather elderflower blossoms used to make St-Germain Elderflower Liqueur. It doesn’t get any more fabulous than that. With a floral nose and hints of pear, grapefruit and lychee, this all natural liqueur is a perfect way to impress friends at your Labor Day BBQ.

Head over to Bar Milano (323 Third Ave., 212.683.3035) and try the Purgatorio - a blend of St-Germain Elderflower Liqueur, Belvedere Pomerancza Vodka, Aperol Aperitivo, fresh mango puree and hand-extracted lime juice.

Stay cool with this refreshing cocktail:

FRENCH 77
From StGermain.fr

1 shot St-Germain
¼ shot freshly squeezed lemon juice
Top with champagne

Pour first two ingredients into chilled fluted glass. Top with Champagne. Garnish with lemon twist.

CP Steal: Dare to Bare

By Kate Phillips
We all wish we could be natural beauties (hello, Kate Hudson!), but let’s face it—most of us can’t roll out of bed already stunning. Crow’s feet? Check. Pimple? Yup, that’s there, too—double check. Under-eye circles that could compete with your former high school football team? Check, check, check.

Now, however, you can bare that beautiful skin with no reservations thanks to nude skincare’s five bestselling products: Cleansing Facial Oil, Advanced Eye Complex, Replenishing Night Oil, Advanced Smoothing Complex and Miracle Mask. Nude skincare’s Famous Five products claim to reduce signs of aging, speed up circulation and cell turnover and brighten and smooth skin using ingredients, including cupuacu, manketti, baobab and avellana, that provide essential fatty acids, nutrition and hydration. Plus, the skincare’s carrier bags, gift boxes, stationery and gift bags are made from sustainable, recycled or reclaimed materials and printed with non-toxic inks and green energy whenever possible.

CP Palate: A Cleaner Dirty Martini

By Ashley Goldsmith
We’ve all woken up the morning after a night of partying with that unbearable headache, feeling nauseous and well hung over. Thanks to the organic trend hangovers may become a thing of the past. As we know, consuming organic foods is a better option because you are not exposing yourself to harmful pesticides that are sprayed on produce and ingredient lists that are a mile long containing things you can’t even pronounce. The same concept works with liquor. For example, grain or potatoes are grown organically and used to create vodka. Resulting in an organic product. The distillation of vodka burns virtually all of its impurities away; leaving you with a pure product that will spare you the agony of the morning after.

With martinis being my libation of choice, I decided to give Crop Vodka a try. Crop is made from USDA certified organic grain grown in fertile soil free of artificial fertilizers, pesticides and chemicals. Impressively smooth and mild, Crop can be enjoyed on it’s own or mixed with your favorite fresh squeezed juice. Try the tomato flavor in your Sunday brunch Bloody Mary or enjoy the crisp and refreshing taste of the cucumber flavor simply chilled and served straight up. So next time your out with friends, ask the bartender to clean up your dirty martini.

CP Palate: Mix It Up

By Kate Phillips
Looking to add a twist to your next get-together? Serve guests a less-than-traditional cocktail with Dutch import Voyant Chai Cream Liqueur, a blend of spices and black and green teas with oak aged rum, fresh Dutch cream and pure vanilla. The 25-proof chai cream-flavored liqueur contains no artificial flavorings or colors, and the company claims it is less in calories and fat than most other cream liqueurs. Each sip is an experience of smoothness, spiciness and creaminess that’s sure to make you the toast of the party. Serve (and savor) straight, chilled or warm, added to tea or coffee. Cheers!

BNQ

“Hey, get down in front!”
Source: mcnblogs.com

This month, BN editors share their end-of-the-summer pastimes. Take notes, because these sound pretty good…

“When Labor Day looms, I know it’s the end of summer, officially. But I see it as the signifier that I can go to the beach! Since my summer is chaotic with work, I wait until the early weekends of September, since its still hot and the water is ‘swimmable’ for the most part, to go to the beach. I also look forward to the cute ‘n quaint Labor Day street fair in Rutherford, the quiet, suburban New Jersey nook of a town that I reside in. Shopping for cute fall jackets and scarves, finding new fall-toned lip glosses, and watching the final stretch of the baseball season for the Philadelphia Phillies are also my favorite end of summer treats!”

- Amy Sciarretto, Beauty Editor

“A family picnic in the grass along the Hudson River in late afternoon, then an outdoor movie and popcorn on the field at Pier 46. The Frying Pan pier and it’s bar/restaurant is also a great, late-summer treat at dusk.”

- B. Kim Taylor, Metro Mama & Metro Baby Editor
