Outside it was 6:00 pm and snowing in New York City, but inside it was midnight in Paris, the inspiration for Reem Acra’s collection. The designer’s collection was filled with gowns and dresses in rich silk velvet, duchesse satins and wool crepe fabrics embroidered with sequins, velvet, feather and fur accents. The color palette in black, violet, metallic gold, silver and frosty white glistened like the city lights of Paris.
By contrast, the hair was simple but with a high-fashion twist that lead stylist Didier Malige called the “couture ponytail.” First Malige created a modified pompadour style with the front of the hair, using Rene Furterer Vegetal Sculpting Gel. He created a side part in the hair and swept it back into a low ponytail, fastened with an elastic hair tie. Using Thermal Protecting Smoothing Spray, Malige then straightened the ponytail with a flat iron. To create shine, Malige completed the style by adding Vegetal Glossing Spray and Finishing Spray.
The make-up also remained very simple and nude, except for the eyes. Lead make-up artist, Pat McGrath, used Cover Girl Ink It! Perfect Plus Eye Liner to create a smokey-eye look. The rest of the face and lips were nude.
