Anglomania is everywhere! The recent visit of HRH, Queen Elizabeth to our southern shores has stirred up a monarchial frenzy! Everywhere the news gives us history, gos-sip and protocol tips for interacting with Ma’am (as in jam, please!) and her entourage. (Tip – never turn your back on royalty!). Perhaps deep down inside some miss the pomp and circumstance (and soap-opera like drama) of having a King or Queen to call their own. Or maybe it’s the idea of preordained leadership destiny, no muss – no fuss – no political headaches.
Need a bit of Cool Brittannia of your own? 24 May is your day! Cunard Line is host to a fundraising spectacular to benefit two of our esteemed cultural icons, The New York City Opera and the Brooklyn Academy of Music. The happening will occur on that most British of institutions, the Queen Mary 2, and is aptly named THE BRITANNIA BALL.
Get out that tiara and get your princess on!
Enjoy the feasting and twirl your regal self about the dance floor to the strains of Peter Duchin and his Orchestra, not to mention a special performance by the magnificent Tony Award winning Patti LuPone. Guests will be granted full access to all public rooms of this posh floating palace including the only seafaring planetarium “Illuminations”! How chic! Those Brits really know how to party, Rule Brittannia!
Sponsored by the CIT Group (and helmed by co-chairs CIT CEO Jeffrey M. Peek and his fair lady, wife Elizabeth with Vice-Chair Brian T. Leary of Massey Knakal) THE BRI-TANNIA BALL has a number of tickets remaining. Festivities begin with cocktails at 6:00 PM (followed by dinner at 7:30 PM) aboard the QM2 dockside at the Brooklyn Cruise Terminal in Red Hook.
City Opera and BAM together reach more than 650,000 people annually and have helped transform the cultural landscape of New York City. All proceeds from The Britannia Ball will be divided equally to support programs at City Opera and BAM.
Contact BAM Patron Services for tickets and additional information at 718.636.4182. Tickets are $1000 with $2,500 VIP tickets available that include preferred seating and an exclusive cocktail reception.
Should one night of luxury not be enough, the Queen Mary 2 will depart the next day for a Memorial Day cruise to the Bahamas. Patron Services can also assist with reservations for this glorious voyage.
