May 5th has lent itself to cinco de Mayo, or a celebration of Mexico’s defeat of the French in 1862. The 5th of May is also the day that Coco Chanel finalized the formula for her iconic fragrance CHANEL NËš5. In celebration of the fragrance and the unveiling of CHANEL’s latest campaign featuring Audrey Tautou, May 5, 2009 has been designated by the city of New York as CHANEL NËš5 Day. CHANEL and Saks Fifth Avenue have partnered for this occasion during which a portion of Fifth Avenue is being renamed AVENUE NËš5 from now through May 10th.

As part of the advertising campaign, CHANEL will unveil the highly anticipated short film titled Train de Nuit starring Audrey Tautou and directed by Jean-Pierre Jeunet, today on http://www.chaneln5.com. The film reveals the intriguing world of CHANEL NËš5 and the power of its seduction. Saks Fifth Avenue’s New York flagship will pay homage to the legendary scent by filling the 17 windows along AVENUE NËš5 with a thematic journey into the world of CHANEL NËš5 inspired by the Train de Nuit film as well as selections from the current CHANEL Ready-to-Wear collection. The fragrance will be prominently displayed on the main floor and in outposts throughout the store, as well as a full cinematic presentation of Train de Nuit.

CHANEL and Saks will also partner to create a new arts program at P.S. 5, the Ellen Lurie Elementary School. The donation will provide funding for the arts program, specifically four separate after-school arts classes – graphic arts, photography, chess and drama – as well supplies and field trips to a local museum or cultural institution for each class.

So to take a lesson in seduction from the fabulous Marilyn Monroe, “What do I wear in bed? Why, Chanel NËš5, of course.”
