The spring just got a little flirtier with the runway debut of celebrity-favorite Olga Kapustina. Designing for the “shy girl who is the last to leave the dance floor”, those lucky enough to attend her exclusive preview were privy to catch a glimpse of what the utterly stylish will be wearing next season. Thigh-grazing skirts and bum-skimming dresses were staples of her premiere but remained, with careful creation, quite ladylike to say the least. Pops of color lent to the overall elegance and chic nature to each of Kapustina’s vibrant, energetic designs. Ideal for those who cannot pack a suitcase to save a life, the collection as a whole will get you through a weeklong beach holiday, effortlessly and stylishly.
Behind the scenes, stylist extraordinaire Shane Manieri of the Chris Chase Salon translated memories of Kapustina’s grandmother into fresh takes on head wraps, finger waves and messy buns. No model was too primped – Manieri claimed to be inspired by the beauty of “next day glamour”. Using NARS and shu uemura shadows on eyelids and a blend of Chanel glosses on the lips, makeup artist Asami Matsuda reflected the collection’s color palette with muted tones for lips and cheeks, and bright, bold, expressive eyes. Meant to look polished and delicate, the overall effect was, for lack of a better word, just plain pretty.
Kapustina’s introduction to Fashion Week was quite breathtaking. Knowing how beautiful her spring line is inspires me to book a March trip to St. Tropez right now. Better start doing lunges immediately – it’s going to be a leggy season ahead.
